Trivia / Beatles for Sale

Go To

  • Christmas Rushed: The title mockingly hints at the fact that it was rushed, to the point that the band had to fall back on a few covers after the all-original A Hard Day's Night. Something which is lampshaded in the liner notes.
  • Creator Backlash: "Eight Days a Week" was a hit single in America, yet the band hated it so much they never performed it live (John Lennon called it "lousy"). Paul McCartney seems to have softened on the song, playing it live for the first time during his 2013 tour.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode:
    • George Martin's favourite song on the album was "I'll Follow the Sun".
    • As shown in The Beatles: Get Back, George Harrison brought up "Every Little Thing" totally unprompted during a discussion about older songs they could play during their proposed TV special, remembering the chords well after four-plus years, suggesting that he had affection for the song.
  • Hitless Hit Album: In the UK, because, as usual, Parlophone released a completely separate single ("I Feel Fine"/"She's a Woman") alongside the album. In North America and continental Europe, "Eight Days a Week" was later released as a single and became a huge hit.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • "Baby's in Black" and "No Reply" were considered for release as singles. "Eight Days a Week" ultimately did become a single, but not in the UK.
    • A Cover Version of Little Willie John's "Leave My Kitten Alone" was recorded during the album sessions but ultimately rejected. Regarded by fans as one of the great "lost" Beatle tracks, it would eventually be released on The Beatles Anthology 2.
