For the first game:

  • Acclaimed Flop: Despite glowing reviews, the game did not sell well. Part of the reason is probably the then-novel mixture of genres, which led to people not quite knowing what to make of the game.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • There were preliminary plans for an expansion pack which would have expanded the NSDF and CCA armies, adding in alternate artillery, flying units, and drone deployers. Certain elements of this eventually made their way into Red Odyssey and Rise of the Black Dogs.
    • The game was originally envisoned as "Lost Brigade", and set during World War II, with the NSDF facing off against a similarly equipped Nazi space force, having been kidnapped by aliens and trying to get back to Earth. When the developers learned that No Swastikas would be an issue, it was retooled into the Cold War story we know today. A few renders for German units survived and were used in promotional materials for the sequel, where a Retcon was seemingly performed to suggest that the US and Soviets obtained the Bio Metal necessary to begin their war from a failed spaceborne invasion by the Mund Korps in 1947. This is not mentioned in ether game proper, however.
