  • Foreign Remake: The story Wesley’s B-plot was based on in ‘If Wishes Were Horses’ was somewhat loosely adapted into a children’s play named Benley and Tut in Israel. Unlike in the original, the dog is saved in the play.
  • Hey, It's That Guy!:
    • Siegfried is Cornelius Fudge.
      • For some viewers, it's the other way around—"Why is Siegfried running the Ministry of Magic?
    • Before he got promoted to Doctor, Peter Davison first had to play the Vet.
    • Nicholas "The Brig" Courtney shows up in one episode as a man whose dog dies of cancer. He then kills himself.
    • Patrick Troughton's appearance in the "Hair of the Dog" episode as a hobo with an ill dog means there is yet another unofficial multi-Doctor episode out there.
  • The Other Darrin: Helen is played by Carol Drinkwater for the first part of the series and by Lynda Bellingham for the second.
  • Series Hiatus: The break in the series between 1980 and 1988 wavers between this and Revival.
