Doctor Atomic is a 2005 opera by John Coolidge Adams about the day (16 July 1945) of the first explosion of an atomic weapon, and the tensions among and within the scientists of the Manhattan Project, with J. Robert Oppenheimer being the main lead. Thematically, it is loosely based on the story of Faust.
