Tear Jerker / You Can Play This!

  • Iron Liz once showed up on JDub's livestream to ask for personal and professional advice. She began talking about her depression and panic attacks, and confessed that she tried to kill herself on her eighteenth birthday. Justin then calmly (and almost casually) admitted that he'd tried it, too.
    • The discussion also prompted a number of people in the chat to come forward with stories of their own struggles with depression and/or suicide attempts. It's a lot more common than you'd think.
    • Becomes Harsher in Hindsight thanks to his death. Especially when Justin talks about how easy suicide is in the heat of the moment. And then states, "Wellbutrin saved my life." Ouch.
  • The trailer for the third anniversary special of You Can Play This. "This is the story of how I died..."
  • As of Thursday, January 23, 2014, Justin passed away of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, confirmed by his wife on Facebook. He will be missed.
    • Even worse, according to her original Facebook post, she was right outside the bathroom door talking to him when he did so.
  • In the wake of Justin's death the entries on the Heartwarming page come off as Harsher in Hindsight. A notable example is the entry where Justin paid tribute to the death of his friend.
  • These tributes to Justin by Doug and Joe.
    • Joe's is especially difficult to watch. It's unspeakably jarring to see a normally energetic, happy-go-lucky guy red-eyed and inconsolable.
    • Spoony had a nice quiet moment at the end of his Lethal Games review; he produces a Wario hat, places it on the back of his chair, and silently departs, leaving the camera to linger on it. The hat is visible on the shelf behind him in subsequent reviews.
    • Linkara as well deserves mention. In his Gameboy #3 review, it starts off with him looking at Justin's picture on his iPad, and Linkara simply sighs. In the end however, he finally levels for a second and starts speaking as Lewis instead as of his character (as present with him removing his glasses) and begins to speak about how much he cares for Justin and explain he didn't do a video tribute due to the fact Doug and Joe did that already. Lewis speaks about how he will miss Justin and thanks him for all the years they've worked together and the friendship they had. Since that episode, on Lewis's shelf, you can see Justin's yellow hat.
    • Another of Justin's former TGWTG contributors, Bennett the Sage also keeps such a hat on his shelf.
    • A bigger tearjerker is when Linkara says 'Hello and welcome to Atop the Fourth Wall, where bad comics burn. And We Can Read This.
    • The ending to Farewell, Famikamen Rider has JewWario's "You Are Not Stupid" speech overlaid with a brief montage of him at a convention.
