!!''Scream'':
* Casey Becker's death. She's so close to being saved, and then her parents close the door unwittingly. It is a distinctly poignant feeling to watch the determination of the human spirit as Casey struggles unarmed against her attacker. To make matters worse, her parents are frantically searching for her even as she's being stabbed and gutted. The music in the background (by Beltrami) is heart-breaking and desperate both at once, even more-so when she manages to see the face of her killer just before she dies.
** Not to mention Steve, who is tied up and tortured right in front of Casey. Through the gag, you can hear him pleading for help when Casey has to turn the lights off at the killer's orders.
* Even worse, Casey's mother picks up the phone and ''hears her being stabbed to death''. You can almost imagine her still being warm when they find her. What is normally FridgeHorror in most teen slashers, the fact that all of the victims have parents and others who cared about them and will never see them alive again, is AscendedFridgeHorror here, as we get to see one of those reactions when Casey's mom finds her daughter's bloody corpse and simply ''crumbles''.
* The mere fact that Billy, the well-meaning love interest, was a vicious killer all along. Once he reveals himself, he completely drops the nice guy act.
* Stu also has a VillainousBreakdown at the thought of his parents finding out what he did.
* And there's Neil Prescott, whose wife was murdered and her affair dragged out in public, then has to watch as his daughter gets targeted for the first, but not only, time a year later.
* The scene the day after Casey's murder where we see a shot of her empty seat in the classroom.
* The bathroom scene where Sidney has to overhear someone slut shame her mother, and suspect ''her'' of being the killer. Neve Campbell conveys so much pain just by looking in the mirror.
** Sidney had also been in denial about her mother's promiscuity, convinced it was all made up by Gale. Tatum has to gently tell her there was talk about other men Maureen had affairs with. She's a seventeen-year-old girl having to come to terms with how her mother was not the person she thought she was. And she can't even hear her side of the story, because she's dead.
** As it turns out, one of those men was Billy's father. When Billy reveals that to her, even though he's obviously the one in the wrong, Sidney briefly looks ashamed. Yet another BrokenPedestal in the neverending revelations about her mother's dirty laundry.
* Sidney finding Tatum.
** Tatum's death. She gets caught in the cat flap in a garage door, and has her neck broken/skull crushed. Even ''the killer'' winces.
*** Even more so with the death is the final moment of Tatum's existence. Does she scream out of terror at the fact that she's about to die? No. She [[IWantMyMommy calls out for her mom]] just before she's crushed to death.
* While Sidney revealing that she's called the police is a triumphant moment due to it meaning that both Stu and Billy will face justice for their crimes, Stu blubbering that his parents will be so mad at him can be sobering, especially for viewers who agree that they would be more afraid of their parents' reaction rather than society's if they were caught doing something wrong.
* The HopeSpot where Sidney runs back to the house after Gale's van crashes and finds Dewey exiting the door. For a second, Sidney goes to him, only for Dewey to collapse with a knife in his back in front of her. While Dewey survives this injury, Sidney's face goes from relief to devastation within seconds.
* Just the fact that Sidney is forced into a situation where she cannot even trust her surviving friends after finding Tatum dead and Dewey wounded, pointing a gun at Randy and Stu, both of whom only hours earlier were close to her.

!!''Scream 2'':
* Maureen being killed in plain sight by who she believes is her boyfriend. Even worse since the audience didn't even know it was actually real until she straight up drops dead. Her acting may be a little over-the-top, but it's still pretty sad once you give this scene some thought.
* Randy's death hurts. From Sidney in the police station afterwards saying "I should call his mom", to Gale's anguished rant about how she just wants to find the killer and stop everything. It was a pity one of the franchise's most beloved characters was mutilated beyond belief. As an extension, his VideoWill in ''Scream 3'' for some fans. Especially the end.
--> '''Randy:''' So in closing, let me say good luck, God Speed, and for some of you, I'll see you soon. 'Cause the rules say, some of you ain't gonna make it. [[ForegoneConclusion I didn't, not if you're watching this tape.]]
* Derek's death, and his last words reaffirming his love for Sidney as he dies.
-->'''Derek:''' I'd never hurt you, Sidney.
* There's also the aftermath of Cici's death. In the hospital, Sidney says "that poor girl".
* There's a special kind of sadness to the deaths of Maureen Evans, Phil Stevens, and Cici Cooper, as they had ''absolutely nothing'' to do with the events of the first film and were only killed because they had the same names as some of the players in ''Scream''.
** Made even worse when you consider the possibility that it was a red herring to throw the police off of the true motives of the killers: one wanted to become popular, the other just wanted plain old revenge.

!!''Scream 3'':
* Cotton's death is this, after all the shit he's been through with being framed for Maureen's murder and then having to kill Mrs Loomis he finally gets a happy and successful life, only for his girlfriend to be murdered in front of him and then fall victim to Ghostface moments later.
* Sidney's reduced role in the third film helps convey how ''alone'' she is; she lives on a remote farm with numerous security systems installed, and works over the phone for a crisis hotline. She's even still wearing Derek's letters as a reminder of that loss. She's also having dreams about her mother as more of the plot develops and more of her mother's past is revealed. Sidney's whole life has been defined by her mother, and she begins to wonder if she ever knew her at all. Worse still, her tough-as-nails persona finally begins to crack because of Ghostface's bullying. She breaks down crying twice, first after her encounter with her mother's "ghost" and again when she's on the phone with Ghostface.
* Sidney's status at the beginning of this movie is especially sad when you compare it to where she was at the start of ''Scream 2''. In that movie, she's in school, has new friends and a boyfriend, is able to be open about who she is and what happened to her with her classmates, and effortlessly shuts down a prankster trying to frighten her by imitating a Ghostface call. She even takes the movie more or less in stride; she doesn't ''like'' it, but she figures it'll be fine once the hype dies down. In short, Sidney seemed to be getting better despite all she went through. Then the events of that movie completely broke her, and caused her to become a recluse who seems to have given up all hope at a semi-normal life.
* While Tom was a spiteful Jerkass Angelina (ironically his main target) is heartbroken by his death, tearfully repeating that he was in the house.
* Angelina was quite a flawed person, but her death is painfully tragic as she's mercilessly stabbed to death while trying to escape from the house made worse by how terrified she sounds in her final moments before her corpse is dragged away. In general, her story is rather sad as she's another victim not only Ghostface but Milton.
* Jennifer's death as she spends her final moments trying in vain to fight off Ghostface only to be brutally stabbed to death, although obnoxious throughout the movie Jennifer is built up to be a genuinely helpful and even caring JerkWithAHeartOfGold who didn't deserve to go out like that, also both Gale and Dewey are shown to be utterly horrified by her death.
* Roman's backstory. His father was a repulsive CastingCouch executive who abused his power to rape Maureen Prescott, and despite the whole incident not being his fault Maureen Prescott coldly rejected him. Even Sidney, who was disgusted by his actions, and put her mother on a pedestal despite knowing she was a serial cheater, can't help but feel some level of sympathy in the end.

!!''Scream 4'':
* Kate Roberts' final words, "Tell Jill I'm... so sorry." What really drives it home is that, since this was all Jill's fault, killing her mother was ''part of the plan''.
** Kate's first scene has her mention that Maureen Prescott was her sister and "no one ever asks me about my scars". Imagine having to live with your sister being brutally murdered and then her dirty laundry being aired all over town, and trashy movies being made about it.
* Charlie's attack on Kirby with her fate being up in the air for years until ''Film/Scream2022''.
** [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments Heartwarming]] mixes in though with the later reveal though that Kirby didn't die and maybe Charlie didn't go all the way through with it--be it not wanting to be there to see/do it or deciding at the last minute [[PetTheDog he couldn't]]. The pained look in his face really speaks to how conflicted he is in the moment that he pulls out the knife and walks away with apparent regret. The intense shock and sadness Kirby has after Charlie has both stabbed her and walked away is also very clear. In what could have been her last moments, the guy she had a crush on--whatever his motivations after--stabbed and left her for dead.
** The idea of what else Kirby had to deal with in the years that follow too. Aside from Charlie's brutal murder at the hands of Jill giving her no closure whatsoever, Kirby's "best friend" who committed the atrocities and was responsible for planning her near death too was at first touted as a hero before the truth came out, all her other friends were dead too and a grueling physical recovery was probably something she faced for years in addition to the mental recovery as well.
* Charlie revealing his relationship with Jill to Sidney by means of referring to them as Sidney and Randy basically reminding Sid about how she couldn't see it until her friend was brutally killed. The even bigger insult that really slaps Sid in the face though is the two kissing and prior to that, this line:
-->'''Charlie''': "Last two teenagers standing. This time Randy gets the girl."
* Even with his own insanity and role in the Ghostface killings, the horrifying moments in which Jill [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness disposes of Charlie]] by stabbing him in the chest to make herself the FinalGirl and him a patsy along with Trevor. The shock and pain he expresses makes it all the more harsh. Telling that he's probably the one time [[AlasPoorVillain you feel sorry for a Ghostface killer]].
-->'''Jill''': "Trevor was your partner. You? You were the idea man."
* The fact that at the time of the events of this movie, Sidney has pretty much no family left. Her mom was murdered, her long-lost brother tried to kill her before she killed him the instant they met, her aunt was killed by her cousin whom she had to kill herself, and her father passed away.
* The FridgeHorror that Jill set up Olivia to be killed off right in front of herself and Kirby, where the latter could only look on helplessly.
* Trevor is the RedHerring for most of the film, with the viewer being led to believe he was the DomesticAbuser and Jill the one we should sympathise with. Then we get the reveal that Jill is the deranged mastermind behind the whole thing, and set Trevor up to be her fall guy. It begs the question of what being in a relationship with her was like, and how much of Jill's claims that he dumped her are actually true. He's even left begging "I ''loved'' you!"
** And right before she kills him, she shoots him in the groin. This girl cruelly wants everyone to suffer before they die.
