• The ending of the "Falling Down" mission. Despite the best efforts of Angelus and Major Grant, Ghall's viron troops murdered countless civilians in Nova Legia, including Grant's wife, and left the entire civilian block to burn.
  Angelus: Major... Maybe she wasn't here.
  Grant: She was here, captain... My Antonia was here...
• Ground Control 2's ending: Jacob opt to stay behind on Morningstar so Alice and evacuating civilians can escape. With no way to be sure if they can be together again.
• The idea of leaving your own homeworld behind in order to survive.
