Admit it, by this point you would have wanted them to win.
Future Diary has a lot of heartbreaking moments underneath all the blood and gore with most of the characters being people driven to murder by the tragedy and loss they experienced in their lives.

Warning, all spoilers are unmarked!

  • Tsubaki's backstory is both this and horrific. As well as the captured Yuno's screams of "No! I'm saving myself for Yuki!" as Tsubaki orders her followers to gang-rape her to lure Yukiteru out and as revenge for all the pain she went through.
  • Reisuke's death can be this, despite being a rather psychotic and murderous 4 year old he's still a 4-year-old after all and he dies after gracefully accepting his fate.
  • Yuki murdering Hinata, Mao and Kosaka is an extremely hard scene to watch. Mao even breaks down in tears about the death of Hinata before Yuki coldly shoots her down and Kosaka is shot after giving a brutal but accurate What the Hell, Hero? speech.
  • Akise's death. He gets his throat slashed and is later decapitated by Yuno, with his last thoughts being about how he needs to warn "his beloved Yuki" about how she's from another world.
  • There's also the death of Kamado the loveable and kind-hearted protector of orphans who is ruthlessly stabbed to death by Yuno after requesting that Yuki creates a world safe for children, and this is after the orphans she looked after were brutally cut down by Yuki and Yuno.
  • Minene's death. Poor girl has to see Nishijima die in front of her eyes first, then does a Heroic Sacrifice for Yukki...only for it not to do anything whatsoever. And for worse, she would've led a peaceful life with Nishijima, if not for his death.
Minene: Ah...That's right... I wanted to be saved, too...!
    • Subverted when it's revealed she's still alive, although she didn't realize that she would be when she attempted her sacrifice.
  • Yuno's breakdown in Chapter 56. At the end of it, she's begging for Yuki to hate her.
  • In Chapter 58, when the second Yuno rebukes the first one's Breaking Speech. "I'm not suffering at all!"
  • Chapter 59/Episode 26. "I stabbed myself."
    • Even without context, just listen to this music and try not to tear up even a little.
  • When Minene holds the school hostage, Yuki, who believes he is about to die, makes a confession to Yuno about how even though he pretended to indifferent to everything; he actually wanted friends. At the end of his confession, he calls himself a loser and breaks down crying.
    • It gets worse. Yuno tries to cheer Yuki up by telling him everything will be better once they get to the other students - after all, they're his friends! Except then they immediately turn him over to Minene to be killed. Yuki isn't even shocked by the betrayal for long, reasoning that there was no reason for anyone to be friends with a pathetic person like him, and just hopes that his death will make him useful somehow. Yuno, meanwhile, starts crying because she believes it's all her fault and that she had inadvertently lied to Yuki.
  • 2nd-world Yuki's fate after he becomes God? The guy spends ten-thousand years floating in the void that the 2nd-world has become, staring at his diary endlessly as it remains frozen on the exact date and time of the last message it recorded and shows: "Yuno died.", blaming himself endlessly for it. Mur Mur, the only other person to have survived from that world, even asks Yuki when he will try out his powers. Not use. Try out. He's literally done nothing since he became God but blame himself for being unable to stop Yuno's suicide for 10 000 years. Thankfully, the Gainax Ending that follows not too long afterwards results in the HAPPY END.
    • If you don't know that there's an OVA, the series ends on a major Downer Ending, with Yuki just sort of stuck in the void, pining for Yuno. It's one of the more brutal endings in anime, discounting The Stinger, and the OVA gets quite a bit of mileage out of the Catharsis Factor of undoing it.
  • Pictured above: Seventh's backstory in the anime (considerably expanded from the manga version), and ultimately their deaths, as Marco lets Yukiteru and Yuno have the last parachute so he could die alongside Ai as the building goes up.
  • The flashback where Yuki and Wakaba go shopping and Yuno runs interference is pretty funny. The previous flashback scene where Yuno is not chosen because "her parents are very strict with her curfew" and she has a flashback to being locked in her cage while begging her abusive mother to let her go out and the one at the end where Yuno recalls her parents's abuse and deaths and the one where Yukki mourns his dead mother obsessively in the present... not so much.
    • What makes the bunny suit one even worse is if you remember that according to another flashback, this is the Yuno from the 2nd-world, and that the 1st-world's Yuno appears and murders her shortly after that flashback ended.
  • Shortly after he Took a Level in Badass, Yuki is actually seen making a list of all the people he's killed. It's pretty hilarious until we find out it's so he can bring them all back upon becoming God. Of course, he finds out that he can't, and Yuki reacts about as well as you'd expect...
  • At one point in the Mosaic manga, Minene finds 5th sleeping between the bodies of his dead parents.
