Each Archetype in the books lists historical figures that were probably Avatars of that Archetype, but it notes that most of these people probably didn't ''know'' they were channeling an Archetype; being an Avatar can, to a minor extent, be done unconsciously, so the historical figures in question weren't necessarily part of the Occult Underground and were probably just living their lives in a way that happened to align with an Archetype.
