TV Tropes The TV Show: One Shot Characters
This is the place to add profiles for one-shot characters on TV Tropes The TV Show. Please remember that characters here are subject to forum approval just like recurring characters. Any characters added here without forum approval will be deleted.

Please add your troper handle to the character profile if it is different from the character name/alias. If we ever have to track you down to ask some questions, we don't want to search through the New Characters thread to find who to talk to.

    Ethereal Mutation
Character Alias: Ethereal Mutation for its newly empowered self (limited in use to Tropers). Also known as The Shade (or something that doesn't sound really lame but ties in with its former modus operandi) from its pre-C-Day self. Neither name was chosen by the character.

Importance of Character: Minor for now due to the deadline. I was thinking more sort of an extreme background character after the introduction episode. Maybe if something works, it could be a Breakout Character of sorts.

Character Role: Free agent without any particular allegiance or preference. In most contexts, it is a villain and treated as such when the people involved know who it is.

Character Power: Shape shifting. To be more specific, it can adopt the physical appearance traits of anyone it "absorbs" (fifteen seconds of uninterrupted skin to skin contact, non-cumulative). It can be either male or female and shows no preference in either direction. It has no native DNA structure (which makes any blood or skin sample a tell-tale sign).

It has quite a few limits, though. First, it can't shift outside of the height spectrum of 5'3"-6'1" and it must be within the 100-180 pound range. Second, clothing is not included in the process. It gets around this by wearing two interchangeable layers of clothing and carrying a backpack with a couple more when necessary. Third, it cannot mimic any body modification (e.g. hair styling, tatoos, scars, plastic surgery, etc.); only the base DNA structure. Fourth, while it can absorb the DNA and mimic the traits of otherworldly creatures, it only gets the appearance (e.g. it can absorb an angel's DNA and mimic the wings and radiant hair and whatever else it has, but it can't actually fly or cast magic or anything like that). On a similar note, if it absorbs someone with multiple forms, it only gains whatever form the person was in at the time. And finally, any moderate injury (e.g. deep cuts, fractured bones, etc.) inhibits its ability to shift until said injury is treated.

Character Backstory: Shortly after C-day, Ethereal Mutation woke up on a hotel patio embracing a dead woman. Left a total amnesiac (outside of its skill sets) with the odd predicament of being an exact replica of the dead woman and only a backpack of assorted things, it ends up wandering out of the hotel just before a SWAT team raids the building.

While sitting in a restaurant, a news broadcast about the building raid clues it in on (possibly) being an infamous identity thief/confidence person that has seduced both men and women in order to get access to their possessions. With its possessions and native skills pointing towards this, it decides to continue its old life starting with what it assumes to be its next target from the materials inside the bag.

It's not until after edging its way into its target's life as his girlfriend and embracing him for a long time that it figures out it can change form. This revelation not only opens up a plethora of possibilities, but also throws even its assumed gender into disarray. After a mild crisis, it decides the best course of action is to chart its capabilities while investigating who it used to be... all the while still stealing identities and pulling elaborate cons (often inadvertently killing people in the process) in order to keep up its opulent lifestyle and evade all the law enforcement still seeking its arrest.

Character Arc: Again, this probably has some problems with being a bit too overdeveloped for a minor character, but who knows? I'll offer both single episode and greater usage.

Single Episode: Origin story either really brief or just kept in the background altogether. The episode could concern itself with the Tropers following a separate case of a master infiltrator or something (someone always several steps ahead), bumping up against weird, out of place people that just tend to vanish without any trace. Eventually, they figure out a pattern and manage to get to the next target in time to find that there's both the fictite and this character involved. After a confrontation over a couple stories of a building, they manage to seal the fictite but lose track of this character. One security camera reveals the character's abilities to change forms. Episode ends with the character out there, doing... something. Left as a mysterious character without any indication of future intent.

Longer: The character develops a fascination with the fictites, deciding that answers to its origin lies with them. Using its skills in manipulation, espionage, and intelligence gathering, it starts tracking down the more fascinating ones to absorb their traits and shake down for information. On the side, it also tries to steal information from the agencies through coercion and subterfuge. It is willing to work both alongside and against pretty much anyone if they have the information they need... and sometimes even when they don't. Its motives are sometimes pretty opaque. I'm not sure where the character should end up (if there even is any real resolution).

    Space Jawa
Character: Space Jawa

Character Importance: One Shot Initially (As Required) - With, of course, the chance to expand should he prove to be worthy of it.

Character Role: Independent Antagonist by way of Well-Intentioned Extremist.

Pre-C-Day Backstory/Personality: A midwestern man of above average intelligence (though by no means a genius), he had a really creative mind and could have been an entertainer, but found himself distracted from this possibility easily and so mostly got stuck doing jobs that weren't exactly rewarding long-term. Despite his enjoyment of living in more urban areas, he found himself having difficulty connecting with others on a regular basis, and with that, often found himself way out of the loop on stuff going out of the ordinary around him. While his beliefs had him want to believe in the best of people, he would often find himself wondering if it wasn't all pointless, especially since he saw himself has having little capability to change anything about the world by his un-influential self.

Character Power: Magnetic Manipulation, which he uses to control what appears to be either a large mecha or a set of Power Armor.

Character Arc: Pre-Appearance, learned of his powers post C-Day, and while overlooked by the major groups, set off to try to help others on his own, and thought he could do better at it if he could use his metal manipulation powers to build a suit to protect his squishy human body, especially from things not metal (and thus, can't exactly manipulate). However, his use of powers in the suit he wore constantly negatively affected his brain, turning him from a decent guy to a HIGHLY misguided Well-Intentioned Extremist who thinks the best way for him to help others is to take over the world. And if that doesn't work, destroy it. Perhaps as a sign that this extremism isn't fully lost on him, it's also driven him to be more dramatic in general. He's occasionally tried recruiting others he's come across to join him, generally through intimidation, but thus far has had mixed results and limited success. That's not to say he's a lost cause, however, as if someone could fix his brain and convince him to give up the armor (or at least most of it) and/or find a way to keep the same thing from happening again, he could go back to being a decent person. Or maybe not, depending on how much difficulty he'd have coming to grips with what he's been doing as a less than sane person.

Power Details: He has a maximum power range of about 100 yards, though this is an absolute maximum and requires additional concentration. (This number is currently a potential and will need to be looked at before he's used). His effective power range tops out at about 60 yards, past which his powers begin to drop off and usually leave him with just the ability to move things around in simple patterns, and not very fast or smoothly either.

His raw strength tops out at about 100 tons, but again requires close proximity, additional concentration, and amounts to more or less "lift heavy object off ground and move it around a little". This too quickly drops as he requires additional finesse and less concentration, up until he reaches the point of somewhere between sixty to seventy-five tons, at which point it still drops as his uses get more complex and creative, though at a much slower rate. Going outside the two hundred yard optimum range intensifies this loss.

Re-shaping metal is more complex, and falls under the category of requiring even more concentration, and usually requires he be in even closer proximity than he'd normally need to be, though this depends on how what he's trying to do. As far as locked metal doors go, he's more inclined to use his powers to deconstruct the door (taking out the bolts and screws, or better yet, trying to move the stuff around to unlock the door instead).

While he can reshape raw metal, his ability to do has questionable use - for example, attempting to shape a cold, hard lump of the stuff being shaped into, say, a mechanical gear, would require that he be next to the stuff, and the end result would look kind of like a dead, fat starfish without pointy arms and a hole in the middle (and be practically useless). Forming the same lump of metal into just a flat plate or a rod would probably yield a lumpy circular bar and something that looking like a smooth metal tree branch (minus the extra branches). It gets easier and he can do a bit more if the metal is heated up, but given the intense effort he'd need to make these things, the end result isn't worth it. It gets easier when he's trying to something simpler like just trying to bend a steel garter into an 'L' or 'O' shape.

All together, it's possible that he could accomplish more if he wasn't running on self-taught use of the power and got proper training, though it's just as likely that yes, those are his upper limits. However, he has found uses for his power beyond raw strength and combat, such as keeping the power source providing energy to his climate control system running.

Armor Details: Using his powers, Space Jawa has assembled what can easily be mistaken for either a large mecha or a set of Power Armor (if necessary to avoid being too close to other characters). The thing has minimal mechanical parts, however (such as a climate control system - it can get hot inside all that metal!), and would fall apart when he's not conscious if not for the bolts and screws he went to the trouble of installing in order to save himself time when he wakes up in the morning. Other aspects that would make one think he's built a powered suit are simply creative uses of his powers, including flight (lifting the suit into the air around him), Rocket Punch (magnetically throwing pieces of his suit at his opponents), etc. feature any conventional ranged weaponry. If he concentrates hard enough, however, or simply stays put and lets his armor eat up damage, he can still use his regular magnetic powers while keeping the suit together (which is made easier by the aforementioned bolts and screws). Alternatively, if he just wears a smaller suit, it doesn't become so much a problem and is used as his main offensive technique. However, the constant wearing of this suit plus his magnetic powers has had a negative impact on the way his thought process works.

On the Detrimental Effects: The power itself has not been the cause of his change in mental changes, but rather a consistent combination of his power use while wearing the armor - specifically the helmet. The armor around his head causes part of the magnetic field he generates when he uses his power to interact with his brainwaves and neurons. His current behavior is also just the early stages of the first step. If he continues with his current path, his mind will continue to deteriorate. Along what lines that happens isn't entirely clear, but would include outright insanity, loss of personality to become little more than a super-powered animal, and eventually, death. While how long it is till this happens is dependent on how much and how hard he uses his powers, but at his current rate, he likely has five, six years tops.

    Eriksson
Appearance and personality: A teenage (but Dawson Casted) boy with medium-length black hair, tanned skin, and brown eyes. He's a stoic type with a Danger Deadpan voice. He wears woodland-camo fatigues.
Power: Extreme endurance. He can engage in strenuous physical activity (because of his job as a scout, this usually means sprinting around) for hours on end without tiring out. This does not mean he is Made of Iron, however.
Backstory: Ordinary High School Student who noticed his unusual endurance 3 days after C-Day, and joined TV Tropes sometime during Season 6 after one of the characters notices his power.
Role/Character Arc: He's a scout for TV Tropes who helps with the fight against the Dark Lodge during Season 6. He's introduced to the team as the "new guy", kills a few Heartless and does some recon for the team, and is killed by Tybalt near the end of the episode he appears in.

    Cloudy
Creator: AFGNCAAP

Alias: Cloudy

Appearance: Cloudy never removes her expressive round sunglasses, which somewhat hide her face, making her gender even harder to determine than it already is. "She" is used in this description, but it doesn't matter and no one is likely to ever find out. As well, she is not very big or tall; twenty-something years old; has short, half dark blond and half platinum blond hair; wears a red suit, a canary dress shirt, and shoes with pointy enough heels/toes to be used like throwing stars.

Character Role: Independently acting monster of the week

Character Power: Obeys toon physics. The downside to this is that the character is vulnerable to being defeated in rather cartoonish ways, too.

Character Backstory: Before C-Day, Cloudy was a chronic underdog, working behind the scenes at a theater that is the glorious center of a community of your choosing. Her duties: anything the actors wanted, and they often got a kick out of humiliating her with impossible requests. It was unlikely that she would ever get to fulfill her dream of becoming one of them. Post C-Day, however, her powers began to not only get her roles, but also saved a lot on special effects. As her reputation grew, she eased into the role of pushing around everyone else, up to the point of de facto control over the theater. Her case is ordinary hunger for power brought on by a life longing for the spotlight: next up, the town, and it won't be a very big step. She already is plotting for the mayor to die in an unfortunate falling piano accident...

Other Personality Traits: Despite the sinister rumors surrounding her, Cloudy wants to be your friend. Having been rather alone before C-Day, she uses her newfound confidence to try and win over whoever speaks to her. If said potential friends threaten her power, though, they are soon to die via injuries that are never permanent in cartoons, but would be fatal in real life. Examples: steamroller'd, anvil to the head, induced head asplosion, inflated to death, car crashed into a fake tunnel, human accordion, bombs labeled "bomb", etc, etc, etc.

Character Arc: Word of her bizarre powers attracts the tropers because she sounds like a rogue fictite, but once they find out that their suspicions were wrong, they have already begun to discover the reasons she needs ousting anyway. A hilarious fight scene ensues.

    Oruals Face
Character Alias: Taste Tracker

Character Name: Maria Pappas

Importance of Character: One-shot

Appearance: Tan, dirty blonde hair with blue-ish eyes, birthmark near her mouth. Likes to wear jeans paired with a dark brown dress with a red http://www.hartfordyork.com/category/greek-fisherman-hats greek hat.

Character Role: She's in the European Wikipedia (mostly in Greece, since of all the ancient myths running around).

Character Power: Whenever a fictitie is nearby, she can sense them. She gets a sort of 'bad taste' in her mouth-which varies according to the 'evilness' of the fictitie. (Usually it's a metallic, bloody, taste). She can also sense when the 'goodness' in a person-this taste is less noticable, but always taste like beeswax mixed with a really sweet flower. Note, she can track down people this way, but it's near impossible to be successful in the search.

Character Personality: She tries to escape reality by being an idealist and focusing on fantasy, but she is constantly pressured to go back to reality. Sometimes a little Cloudcuckoolander-ish, but is pretty trustworthy. Tries to be carefree, but also has that Greek pride that can bubble out very suddenly.

Character Backstory: Anna was born in Greece (can still speak English), and is very fascinated with the myths and legend of her country. Cut to C-Day when she discovers her powers and the fictities running around everywhere. A fictitie evades into her home and kills her entire family, except her (who escaped thanks to her senses). Scared of them and being to sense them, she runs away from home, going all around Europe for a safe place to hide. Needless to say, everywhere she goes there's fictitie chaos. Soon enough, she realizes that she needs to face her fear and go back to her house in Athens and face these things there. When she goes home she learns of and joins up with the Greek division of Wikipedia, realizing her talents could be of use to them, and she definitely wants to see fictities go away and never come back.

Character Arc: Facing fear, realizing reality, etc. (something along those lines, not too sure myself). Writers, may kill her off.

    Heinrich Kessler
Creator: Spaghetti Cat III

Name: Heinrich Kessler

Age: 42

Appearance and personality: 6ft 3in tall, blond hair, blue eyes, wears an East German army uniform; Is a Heroic Sociopath ( The "Heroic" part is nonexistent), a Nietzsche Wannabe, a Cold Sniper, and an all around Jerkass.

Weapons of choice: Barrett M82 sniper rifle, a Walther P99 pistol, and a Bowie knife.

Importance: One shot villain.

Role: Psychofor Hire.

Backstory: In the years before C-Day, he was a member of the East German Army, in which he served as a sniper with cold efficiency. When the wall came down, he became a mercenary, and experienced humanity at it's worst when he fought in the Balkan Conflicts, and lost all faith in the good of humans. When C-Day arrived, he went about business as usual, working as an assassin and mercenary amongst the chaos.

    Jigoku Bosatsu
Character Alias: Uses his dharma name for most purposes, occasionally will refer to himself as a character from a Morrissey song.

Importance of Character: One shot but potentially a reoccurring minor.

Character Role: Free agent, and technically a Mentor but due to the highly dangerous nature of his help and his abrasive demeanor, will most likely be an antagonist.

Character Power: Is the abbot of the "Hell Buddha Abbey, " a Zen facility that is a golden 1"x1" box (originally a petit-four container from a chocolate shop). Any character that meditates inside the Abbey (typically achieved by putting one finger in, or being very tiny) can be coaxed by Jigoku Bosatsu into achieving Ultimate Enlightenment. 99% of the time this results in a negative effect: Your Head Asplode, Go Mad From The Revelation, etc. 1% of the time it's Exactly What It Says On The Tin.

Weapons: mind-blastingly appropriate Morrissey lyrics.

Character Backstory: A family man and dilettante before C-Day, Jigoku Bosatsu accidentally used his own power on himself while scraping the last bits of chocolate from a petit-four box and reading an excerpt of the Samyutta Nikaya. With that burst of enlightenment/insanity, he remade himself as a monastic dedicated to enlightening everyone in the whole universe even if it kills them.

Character Arc: The tropers will hear about him either when he comes to town and a mass of "enlightenments" throw the city into chaos, or when a more central villain seeks out the Hell Buddha Abbey in a desperate gamble to acquire greater powers.

    Mio
Character Name: Gaius Montag (currently goes by the alias Mio)

Appearance: He is roughly at 5’8 and has a rather stocky build. He has lightly tanned skin, mid back length gray hair that has been tied into a pony tail, a gray goatee and mustache, and glasses. His clothes consist of a plain black t-shirt, black jean pants, brown combat boots, and a brown trench coat.He appears to be late 30s/early 40s due to his hair and combat worn appearance but in actuality he is only in his mid 20s.

Character Role: Former mercenary/assassin, currently on the run.

Character Power: Has the power to manipulate air currents and vibrations using the power of music. With this power create powerful currents that can knock his opponents over, lift them into the sky, or shred flesh and armor. As an addition the vibrations can create incredible painful sounds that can disable or kill opponents depending on the instrument and how it’s played. His signature instrument is a 6-string Tobias Signature Bass Guitar named “Athena” which he always keeps with him. Despite this he is not afraid to experiment or improvise and will use any instrument from a piano, to a harmonica, to even a slide whistle.

Character Backstory: He does not talk much about his life pre C-day but when asked he will tell you that he lived a “fairly average middle class American life”. After C-day however he became fascinated with the new world that came with the collapse of the fourth wall and his newly manifested powers. He quickly decided that he wanted to go out and be a part of this new world so shortly after C-day he gathered some belongings and left home to walk the earth. As his powers developed he decided to turn mercenary because at the time he thought “it was the best way to take in all the new world had to offer”. His time as a mercenary has allowed him to experience all sides of the conflict and has also allowed him to make more than a few enemies who would like to see him dead.

Character Arc: After breaking a contract with Dark Lodge he has found himself on the run from its agents. In order to throw them off his trail he has faked his own death, and has assumed a new alias but he knows that this will only work for so long. He has decided to turn to the Tropers, a faction that he treated with indifference up to this point, because he knows of their past conflicts with Dark Lodge. He hopes that he can trade asylum within their order for information about Dark Lodge and their future plans.

Character Personality: His time as a mercenary has left him with a rather negative opinion on the world at large this is reflected in the frown that he always wears. He is apt to giving commentary about the situation around him to whoever will listen (or just to himself). Despite his decision to make contact with the Tropers, it was more about survival then a genuine hope to join their movement. He is rather conflicted about what should happen next. On the one hand he hates what the world has become after C-Day but he finds that his life would not have been nearly as interesting if C-Day never happened. He does know that he cannot remain neutral as the conflict comes to a head and that he will need to pick a side.

    Rock
Character Name: Rock Baroque

Alias: His Lordship

Appearance: BEAUT Yful features, including perfectly kept straight brown hair, sparkling blue eyes, and soft, light skin. 6', 154.52 pounds, with a body that even the greatest sculptor could not hope to imitate. His intense focus on BEAUTY has seen him spend inordinate amounts of time on his personal appearance, and it is rumored (although he refutes the claim) that his hair color is not natural.

Character Role: Free Agent Ineffectual Anti-Villain

Character Power: Implausible Fencing Powers

Character Backstory: Before C-Day, Rock was a bit of a laughing stock; he was quiet, shy, and not very good looking. However, with the chaos surrounding C-Day and the strange changes that came with it, he reimagined himself as Lord Rock Baroque, a gentleman who fights for BEAUTY and HONOR above all else. His personality is foppish and absurd in the extreme; everything he does is so blown out of proportion, people have trouble taking him seriously. For the most part, Rock simply wanders from place to place enforcing his ideal of BEAUTY on whoever he comes across, only to vanish mysteriously (yeah right) when his work is done. Really, though, he just manages to get in the way of people who are doing actual good.

Character Arc: Being a one-shot, I don't see this really applying. Any character development he might display will be quickly forgotten the moment something catches his interest. To be sure, he'll be spouting off nonsense about BEAUTY and HONOR and THE TRUE STRENGTH OF A MAN in no time.

    The Jackal
Name: Carmine Caine

Power: Disintegration. Works on anything up the size of a small car, requires 5-10 seconds of concentration to take effect.

Backstory: At the age of 16, he stole his abusive father's gun and shot him in revenge for years of abuse. Enjoying the feeling of control this act gave him, he embarked on a long and successful career as a Serial Killer. He was caught about 10 years before C-Day, convicted of 36 killings and sent to Death Row. After C-Day, he used his newly found powers to escape and resume his killing spree, using disintegration instead of a gun.

Character Role: One-shot Monster of the Week.
