- A peeve of Frankie's is that her father greets her regularly with a teasing shout of "It's alive!"
- Mr. Hackington, a Cockney-accented Leatherface lookalike is the biology teacher.
- The headmistress of Monster High rides around on horseback and carries her own head by the hair.
- Plus she wears a purple coat, a black suit underneath, and her head comes off.
- Frankie's dad uses "Mary Shelley's ghost!" as an oath, and her mom is prone to "Karloff's crypt!" when most people would say "Good heavens!"
- Ghoulia’s owl is named “Sir Hoots-A-Lot”.
- Cleo invokes Egyptian deities ("Oh, my Ra!").
- An obvious shout-out to Twilight pops up in "Shock and Awesome", complete with a reference to the Bishie Sparkle.
- In Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love?, C. A. Cupid has pink curly hair and is shown in silhouette, much like the Utena broadcasting girls.
- Lagoona, in arguing with her dad about going to school on land, even writes in her diary, "I know he's just worried about me but I told him that everybody is really scary sweet and they treat me like everybody else and it's not like I've got to give up my voice or something silly like that..."
- The "Escape from Skull Shores" TV special's plot was a giant Shout-Out to King Kong and The Incredible Hulk.
- Finnegan Wake is one to Finnegans Wake.
- Titles of webisodes do this often.
- "Jaundice Brothers", the very first one, is a shoutout to The Jonas Brothers.
- "Queen of the Scammed" is one to 2002 vamp flick Queen of the Damned.
- "Cyrano De Ghoulia" is one to Cyrano de Bergerac, as is the plot.
- "The Good, The Bat, and the Fabulous" is one to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
- "Date of the Dead" is one to Day of the Dead (1985).
- "Crime Scream Investigation" is one to CSI.
- "Ghosts With Dirty Faces" is one to Angels with Dirty Faces.
- "Hickmayleeun" is one to Pygmalion.
- "The Nine Lives of Toralei" is one to The Nine Lives of Chloe King.
- "Aba-kiss Me Deadly" is one to Kiss Me Deadly.
- "Creepfast Club" is one to The Breakfast Club. The plot is too, centering around the ghouls and Heath in detention with Mr. Rotter.
- "Jungle Boo-gie" is one to the infamous Kool & the Gang tune made famous by Pulp Fiction.
- Heath not only has fire-based abilities, but he looks a bit like Dario Bossi too.
- Nefera and Amanita's "Scream And Sugar" release gives them each a milkshake containing expies of baby Xenomorphs.
- Certain aspects of Robecca's creation and backstory are similar to that of Commander Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation
- Clawdia's signature look appears to be heavily inspired by that of SWAT Kats character Callie Briggs.
- The part about how Twyla's fashion sense on her profile makes a reference to the song Smoke on The Water by Deep Purple.
