If you are lost on the references and Shout Outs that Lucky Star makes, look no further. Many of these references are specific to the anime.

    open/close all folders

    Episode 1
  • In the opening itself, Konata does an Ultraman pose. Specifically, the pose most Ultras use for their signature Specium Ray, iconic in itself.
  • Also in the opening, the girls dance and walk around in some recognizable real-life scenery:
    • Konata dances in a rice field north of her house in Satte.
    • Kagami walks in front of the entrance of the Washinomiya shrine.
    • Tsukasa dances in front of Kasukabe station.
    • And lastly, Miyuki dances in front of the high school in Kasukabe.
  • Konata and her game buddies are on a quest to restore light to the crystals, rescue the kidnapped princess, and save the world from ruin.
  • When Konata relates how she first met Tsukasa, it becomes a Sudden Video-Game Moment which is also a parody of Street Fighter, featuring Guile. Konata has a Shotoclone moveset featuring the Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku, and the Versus screen is taken straight from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

    Episode 2
  • The gang were trying to pick Sgt. Frog toys at the UFO catcher.
  • Tsukasa's mention about the dentist's drills reminded Konata about Getter Robo. "Change Getter!"
    • "DINOSAUR EMPIRE!!"
  • Konata was also reminded about Gunbuster when they talked about the entire dentist experience, complete with a cute nurse doing Noriko's little dance in front of a spaceship.
    • Earlier, Konata seeing a discount for QUO cards caused the Gunbuster march to appear as concentration music.
  • Konata namedrops Harry Potter when talking about what people consider to be "normal" books.
  • Internal reference: the drama CD/anime seiyuu discussion was basically referring to this series.
  • In Kagami's Imagine Spot about Konata working in the bookstore, Konata stole bookmarks put next to a SHUFFLE! float.
  • Konata and Tsukasa were playing Hare Hare Yukai on the taiko drum game.
  • Minoru's first line in this Lucky Channel before he composes himself: "Wa-wa-wa-wasure.../I for-for-forgot my..."

    Episode 3

    Episode 4

    Episode 5
  • Kagami named her goldfish Gyopi-chan after the flying goldfish in Goldfish Warning!.
  • Yui has a Bonta-kun mask on her when Kuroi-sensei meets her.
  • Tsukasa and Konata's phone conversation on depleted uranium was yet another Full Metal Panic! reference.
  • Konata sings "Cha-La-Head-Cha-La" by Hironobu Kageyama (the first Dragon Ball Z opening) in the ending.
  • The Background Music to the game Konata is playing sounds an awful lot like Perfect World...
  • Also, while playing, Konata sings "Bouken Desho Desho", with different lyrics, the 1st season of Haruhi Suzumiya's OP (which was sung by Aya Hirano, who voices both Haruhi and Konata).
  • When Kagami attempts to do the fish scoop, she says "Getto da ze!" That is the Japanese motto for the Pokémon series. In English, it was translated to "Gotta Catch Them All!".
  • When Konata was talking about compfest, she was holding up a magazine with Archer and Saber on it.

    Episode 6
  • The gang plus Kuroi and Yui are going to the beach in Episode 6 when Yui goes all *bleep* D, complete with a song by "m.o.e.v". Everything in that sequence was parody gold: the water in the dashboard, the art style, the Eurobeat, the onlookers, the FD, the gutter run, and don't forget Konata quoting Natsuki verbatim about being carsick.
  • Konata's again referring to Full Metal Panic! when she mentioned Shooting Watermelons.
  • When Nanako drinks her beer in the beach cafe, it's almost a perfect replica of Misato Katsuragi's famous beer-drinking scene.
  • Konata's referring to vintage personal care commercials in the Furo Scene (Timotei and Mandom).
  • The punchline of Konata's scary story is that after all the tense buildup, the man in the story sang "Danzen! Futari wa (squeeker sound) ure" in a really loud voice.
  • Later Konata namedrops The Inugami Clan, a classic Japanese murder mystery novel by Seisho Yokomizo, when scaring Tsukasa.
  • In the Lucky Channel segment, Shiraishi apparently thinks that Otaku are the kind of people who are always crying over A Dog of Flanders (specifically the 1975 anime adaptation, which aired as part of the World Masterpiece Theater series and is considered a classic). Akira lampshades how dated his idea of an otaku is.
  • For the ending theme, Tsukasa sings "Valentine Day Kiss" by Sayuri Kokusho, which is the most popular Valentine's Day song in Japan.

    Episode 7
  • Konata's floaty speech pattern, wistful expression, use of "gokigenyou," and insistence on fixing Tsukasa's bow are all references to Maria Watches Over Us. Heck, Konata outright namedrops it as Marimite, which is the official Portmanteau Series Nickname.
  • Konata is heard watching Strawberry Panic!.
  • Tsukasa's ringtone is Pachelbel's Canon.
  • In the ending, Konata said the song Miyuki chose fits her as the song was from the singer/lyricist Miyuki Nakajima.
  • When Akira mentions wanting to have a twin drill hairstyle, Minoru has a brief imagining of himself with that style, thinking "Never underestimate the speed of the Getter!" And right at the end: "Gero-geroo! Gero-ger—"
  • "I would assume all butlers are named Sebastian..."
  • Konata's cellphone has an anime ringtone. Three guesses which anime's Season 1 ED it belongs to.
  • Attack No. 1 is mentioned during the girls discussing how they react to manga. When Kagami then asks Konata and Tsukasa what their favourite manga is, they both answer that it's Sgt. Frog (though in the English dub they refer to the series with its Japanese title, Keroro Gunsou).
  • Full Metal Panic! gets a nod for having a new book out at Gamers.

    Episode 8

    Episode 9
  • The TV drama Tsukasa mentioned when she studied with Kagami was The 14-year-old Mother.
  • The girls discussed a lot about sports in the latter half of this episode:
    • The figure skater who won the (2006) Winter Olympics was Shizuka Arakawa.
    • The High School baseball tournament that went into extra innings, as Bandai's notes said, went on for two days. Prince Handkerchief refers to a player of the winning team.
    • Kagami mentioned Daisuke Matsuzaka, who went to Red Sox after the 2006 season.
    • The 2006 Japan Series was between the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters and Chunichi Dragons, so Konata mentioned "blocks of ham."
  • Konata, Kagami, and Tsukasa watch Saw III.
  • Here's something dub only: When Minoru's getting Tsukasa's profile, Akira comments that he sounds like a nerdy turtle. Granted, Akira calls him a turtle in the Japanese version.
  • During the next episode preview, Konata mentions the well known 1-up trick from "Super xxxxx Bros."

    Episode 10
  • Soujirou has a fangasm when he realizes how similar Tsukasa and Kagami are to Sakura and Rin.
  • Konata's room is exposed. We see a Mikuru figurine, clearly the Gachapon version, and the poster of the Haruhi cast in bunny suits.
  • Tsukasa's phone has a Tamama keychain on it.
  • The scene about Miyuki going to the clinic was a reference to the TV drama Dr. Koto Shinryojo.
  • Kagami was again reading Full Metal Panic! when Tsukasa texted her at home.
  • Konata shows Kagami the point cards of the Tora no Ana, Animate, Ishimaru Denki, Gamers, and Yodobashi Camera before going into the Animate store.
  • In the Animate store, Anime Tenchou wanted to sell Konata a Haruhi Suzumiya DVD, but Konata left since she wanted to have an Aquarian Age souvenir.
  • The girls discuss how 2ch speak has cropped up on TV a lot and Konata says that if someone understands, they have lost. (The Game).
  • Akira asks if Minoru still has a job at CoCo Ichibanya, a prominent Japanese curry restaurant chain.

    Episode 11
  • Masutatsu Oyama is referenced by Konata concerning karate.
  • Yui walks on Konata watching a Kousuke Kindaichi movie and a Odoru Daisaisusasen drama.
  • Konata's dad shouts "STRONGER!!" as he plays with static electricity, which is a reference to Kamen Rider Stronger's henshin sequence.
  • The ending theme, sung by Tsukasa and Miyuki, is "Doraemon no Uta".
  • Konata mentions seeing a girl in a sailor uniform holding a machine gun on the train platform. A reference to Sailor Suit and Machine Gun, a 1980s TV drama that was remade in 2006, which OP was sung by Kagami at the end of episode 4.
  • There's another reference to A Dog of Flanders (1975) when Konata talks about how her dad kept missing his stop on the train, where he's crying while asleep and saying "Patrasche, I'm so tired...".

    Episode 12
  • The first half of the episode is a trip to Comiket or Comic Market, the world's largest Doujinshi fair and largest Fan Convention.
    • There's a huge Haruhi poster on a moving truck, not quite sure if it's a Gekisou advertisement.
    • One yellow car has a huge decal of Primula on it.
    • Konata's shopping list at this Comiket is apparently REAL and shows the layout of the actual Comiket held on December 31, 2006. Apparently, Konata was buying Hentai Haruhi doujins. See here.
    • This is borne out as Kagami buys a Haruhi doujin, "Nurunuru Danchou-san" ("Wet+Wild Brigade Leader") and a Full Metal Panic doujin, "Ikenai Kanchou-san" ("The Naughty Captain" (i.e. Tessa)).
    • The Miyakawa sisters, Hinata and Hikage, appear briefly in the background shortly before Konata's "reloading" scene. They were originally characters in the drama CDs and video games.
    • Kagami gets Squicked by some Sousuke/Gauron Yaoi doujinshi from a circle. Relevant.
    • Hiyori makes a split-second Early-Bird Cameo in the scene where two Animate clerks try to sell Konata their doujinshi. No wonder she stood out in the Faceless Masses.
    • A scene where Tsukasa walks outside among cosplayers:
    • Soujirou appears briefly, implying he went to Comiket as well.
    • The scene after Akira's poster is knocked over has Minori Chihara selling Haruhi merchandise.
    • Behind Minori Chihara and the arguing customer in that scene is a Kanon poster.
    • Konata mentions a "Hotel Urashima" that she and her father stayed at when talking about previous Comikets. Hotel Urashima is a real place, and was notorious when Comiket was held at Harumi. Small, expensive, and creepy.
    • Is that a terrible Hatsune Miku?
    • When Meito Anisawa and Clerk Sugita chastise one customer for arriving late, behind Clerk Sugita is a poster of Rena Ryuuguu from Higurashi: When They Cry.
    • The poster on the wall where Clerk Sugita is punched into by Meito Anisawa is a SHUFFLE! poster, but only Lisianthus is visible due to the dust. Confirmed a few scenes later, because Asa Shigure is clearly visible on the poster.
    • When Clerk Sugita hits the wall after being hit by Anisawa, he mutters "Asia" — this may be a reference to Master Asia from G-Gundam
    • When Clerk Sugita was saying he was looking for a weapon, his voice sounded like Amuro Ray.
    • Finally, we have the Actor Allusion laden duel between Tomokazu "Sousuke" Seki and Tomokazu "Kyon" Sugita. Both try to sell their own characters' merchandise while failing.
    • They also have to explain to the President that Kyon and Sousuke are main characters.
    • A Sgt. Frog poster is on the wall where President Takahashi punches both Anime Tenchou and Sugita. Yes, the actual president of Animate.
  • The ending song played halfway through is "Makenaide" by ZARD, as a tribute to one of their lead singers recently dyingnote .

    Episode 13
  • The ending song is a reference to the episode in Haruhi Suzumiya where Taniguchi walks in to see Yuki lying in Kyon's hands.
  • The scene where Konata thinks about the 100 poets, she's shown with a duel disk, wearing a combination of Yugi and Kaiba's outfits (complete with an upside down Millenium Puzzle).
  • When Miyuki's playing with her cousins, she reads the Chihayafuru card. This was more obscure back then, as Lucky Star's broadcast run was the same year Chihayafuru began serialization and ended before the first bound volume hit.
  • The Animate scene has quite a few references to Sgt. Frog:
    • For one, each assistant parodies one of the central characters, and are even voiced by their respective voice actors from the anime: the male with the walkie-talkie is Giroro (voiced by Jouji Nakata), the brunette is Tamama (voiced by Etsuko Kozakura), and the blonde is Keroro (voiced by Kumiko Watanabe).
    • When the male assistant yells "Boss, we got her!" he is inside Giroro's tent.
    • When blocking Konata's path, the brunette and the blonde laugh like Tamama and Keroro, respectively. Tamama's tail can be seen on the back of the brunette as well.
    • When Konata is at the register, the store employees' facial expressions make them resemble their respective Sgt. Frog character.
  • When Konata receives chocolate from Tsukasa, she references the series opening.
  • At one point, Meito Anisawa tries to use Geass to get Konata to buy something, complete with an Ash Ketchum hat turn.
  • When Kagami scolds Konata, Konata says "Uguu~" while suddenly wearing a winged backpack.
  • When Kagami imagines Konata working as a Doujinshi artist, Konata is saying "Megas smoked cheese, nyoro!"
  • For the next episode preview, Keroro, Giroro and Tamama from Sgt. Frog do the voiceovers, but this time as themselves.

    Episode 14
  • It's implied that the game Konata is playing at the Hiiragi house is a Super Robot Wars game (since Kagami asks her if she knows who all the characters are in these "robot games").
  • The Hiiragi family is watching Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The fact that Hiromi Konno voiced the contestant is pointed out in the start of Lucky Channel.
  • Konata uses her DS with Shaberu! DS Oryōri Navi as a cooking guide.
  • Ending theme: Hare Hare Yukai
  • "MIYAGI-SAAAAAN!"

    Episode 15
  • Da Capo is referenced twice in this episode, with Konata parodying Nemu coughing up sakura petals, and the opening itself is parodied, with Konata playing the roles of Nemu, Sakura, Kotori, Moe, and Junichi, complete with the Da Capo opening music. Relevant. (As it's Danbooru, ads are NSFW)
  • "So, is it interesting?" "Unique." As Konata says that, there's a figure of Haruhi in her bunny girl outfit on her bookshelf. Later on, we see a poster of the Haruhi girls in bunny girl outfits.
  • The four attend the Haruhi Suzumiya concert and talk event, The Extravangence of Haruhi Suzumiya.
  • Soujirou does the henshin sequence from Kamen Rider Super-1
  • Yutaka's class introduction directly references that of Chiyo's in Azumanga Daioh, something that she lampshaded.
  • Near the end of the episode, Die Lorelei is playing when Yutaka enters Konata's room. Since it's Konata, she was probably playing Fate/stay night.
  • During a classroom session, Kuroi-sensei wakes up Konata. Upon waking up, Konata mentions, "Potemkin!". Possibly a reference to a character from Guilty Gear.
  • Minoru tries to sing "Koi no Minoru Densetsu". It's basically "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu" from Haruhi, with a few alterations. He fails, because the editing team cuts him off.
  • Konata's speech about an anime where dead pets are resurrected refers to the 2001 series Angel Tales... in which Aya Hirano played Momo the Monkey, one of her earliest roles.
  • Konata has a poster on her wall for the Kiddy Grade Ignition movie, which had been in cinemas in April of the same year (the episode was set in April). Eclair from Kiddy Grade, of course, was Aya Hirano's first lead role and she was herself present at the premiere.

    Episode 16
  • Konata's new handphone, unsurprisingly, has a Haruhi Suzumiya wallpaper. Her ringtone is also "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu", which Minoru tried to sing in the credits in the last episode.
  • Everybody who works at the Cosplay Café dresses, and acts in character, as characters from Haruhi Suzumiya. Examples include:
    • After Konata (who's cosplaying as Haruhi) bosses them around in a very Haruhi-esque way to get their orders, Kagami says, "Yare yare," just like Kyon.
    • Yuki and Kyon make cameos in the cafe, with Kyon as a customer and Yuki as a waitress, and their respective voice actors even reprise their roles. They also announce the preview for the next episode.
    • Konata performs "Hare Hare Yukai" on stage with Patricia Martin, who's cosplaying as Mikuru.
    • When Kagami asks what the juice has in it, Patricia replies with "Kinsoku jikou desu" ("That's Classified Information").
  • Kagami is instructed by Konata to buy the Code Geass manga adaptation, though Konata refers to it as the "Lelouch Manga".
  • Two otaku mistake Tsukasa for a cosplayer of Akari Kamigishi, with one of them asking her to say "Hiroyuki-chan," which is what Akari calls male protagonist Hiroyuki Fujita, and one of the photographers is the director of the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya (the guy with the large glasses and camera).
  • Anime Tenchou tries to sell Konata the Season 1 Image Songs for Haruhi, only for her to walk out because Kagami wants to meet her.
  • While Akira sings "Misoji Misaki", Minoru wonders for a moment whether he should sing "Kentai Life Returns", one of Kyon's image songs from Haruhi Suzumiya. In the credits, Akira's seiyuu sings 'Misoji Misaki" in real life.
  • Tsukasa asks for her sisters' help to translate parts of an English book for homework. The passages shown: "Curses, like chickens, come home to roost. When you make the contract, you will absolutely go to hell, too.

    Episode 17
  • The split screen when the Izumi-Kobayakawas prepare for Konata's birthday is taken from 24.
  • Konata said she wanted to be a Brigade leader, Nanto Shinken master, and an anime storyboard artist. When Kagami asked about her special talents, she said she can name all Pok_mon.
  • Outside of the bookstore Kagami was holding a Rental Magica light novel.
  • In the classroom Konata was reading the July 2007 issue of Comptiq, with LS on the cover and Haruhi on the back.
  • When Kagami borrows Konata's history book, the drawings represent Noein characters, complete with someone shouting HARUKAAA !
  • When talking about how you can do more with a bigger cast, Konata first references Little Women ("that story in olden America where a mother and four daughters wait for their father to come home from war"), then to Cat's Eye ("a group of female thieves that go after art"). Cue an Imagine Spot where all four Hiiragi sisters parody Cat's Eye's second ending.
  • In Lucky Channel, Anime Tenchou lists off a few of Hiromi Konno's previous roles — two of them are Rouran and Potato. At the end of the preview, Minoru yells "Finger".

    Episode 18
  • When on an discussion on Animal Motifs, the Miyuki in the Imagine Spot said Fumoffu!
  • The animal show the Hiiragis were watching is likely to be Tensai! Shimura Doubutsuen.
  • Kagami was forcing Konata to read the first book of Kimi no Ita Kinou, Boku no Miru Asu.
  • When Konata mentioned an anime was postponed for 4 hours due to election coverage, she was referring to Lucky Star itself.
  • When Konata and Kuroi-sensei are arguing about TV broadcast, it changes into Full Metal Panic! mecha in Super Robot Wars gameplay.

    Episode 19

    Episode 20

    Episode 21
  • When Patty mentioned Narimiya-kun, she's referring to Hiroki Narimiya, and by context his performance of the Akibahara@Deep movie.
  • Hiyori apparently has quite a bit of Future Diary by her pillow.
  • Konata's line about Iris was from Gamera.
  • Konota pointing out the Buddha statue as the main one and the smaller Buddhas surrounding it as the options refer to the game Gradius.
  • When Shiraishi was chasing for the bus, Konata wanted him to reenact Galaxy Express 999. Afterwards, her face Art Shifts to the distinctive art style of Galaxy Express 999's creator, Leiji Matsumoto.
  • When the girls discuss the names of the Kinkakuji and Ginkakuji temples, Konata wonders if they were named that in a similar way to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
  • At the dinner scene, Konata mentioned Souryuden.
  • Of course, Konata et al. went to Kyoto Animation studios.
  • When the girls try to lift a huge metal staff at one of the temples, Konata remarks that it's heavier than the Dragon Slayer in a reference to Berserk.
  • In the ending, Minoru is wearing a Kamen Rider Den-O Belt, he's mimicking Kamen Rider BLACK 's transformation pose, and the narration at the end is typical of a Showa-era Kamen Rider series.

    Episode 22

    Episode 23

    Episode 24
  • Konata cosplays as Yuki Nagato, even quoting her fortune telling from the Haruhi episode "Live Alive".
  • Patty bribes Konata into helping out with the cheerleading routine with tickets to see Haruhi Suzumiya's voice actress, Aya Hirano (which doubles as a Celebrity Paradox, as Hirano voices Konata herself).
  • When Misao's being asked by a few people to get stuff for them, one of them wants a copy of Playboy. She immediately notices that there's something wrong before snapping.
  • Yutaka's class puts on a Takarazuka Revue-themed cafe for the cultural festival. Naturally, this gives Hiyori an excuse to dress Yutaka and Minami up as a typical musumeyaku and otokoyaku, respectively.
  • Minoru sings "Beautiful Dreamer (Ai wa Boomerang)" in the ending credits, which is one of the ending themes for Urusei Yatsura.

    OVA
  • The episode's name is JK, which observant Tropers will know as the abbreviation for Joshikousei.
  • Instant Cosplay Surprise is invoked by Konata; while cosplaying as Yuki Nagato again, she transforms Kagami into a maid, a miko, Rin Tohsaka, and Hatsune Miku.
  • (From here): The censored "undo" spell Kagami reluctantly shouts in her dream is: "Konata to gattai shitai!" ("I want to unite with Konata!") — a close parody of "Anata to gattai shitai!" ("I want to unite with you!"). The latter was a highly-promoted catchphrase from Genesis of Aquarion, in which flying mechs and their human pilots literally merge into one gigantic entity.
  • When Konata briefly mentions the Lodoss Tabletalk Game, she's talking about Dungeons & Dragons, specifically the campaign replays published in Japan that would eventually become the basis for the series of novels (and later, the anime adaptation) of that name. Naturally, most pen and paper RPGs are classified as Tabletalk RPGs in Japan.
  • The promo food items that look out of place in the fantasy-based MMORPG are a poke at The Tower of Druaga MMO, which did much the same thing.
  • The song that plays briefly during the volleyball game is the theme of Attack No. 1.
  • Konata orders Tsukasa and Misao to form up for the Jet Stream Attack.
  • When Patty discovers Cherry's paw pads don't go puni-puni, she lets out a loud cry of "ZETSUBOU SHITA!".
  • The victory pose that Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Kuroi make in the game is the ending pose of the "Hare Hare Yukai" dance, with a random guy filling in Itsuki's spot and then walking away.
  • When the gang gets lost in the mountains, Konata yells out "THE HEAVENS HAVE ABANDONED US!!!", a line taken from the film Hakkouda Mountain.
  • That's our Mi-wiki-san!
  • Konata calls Miyuki the Idol of the Galaxy in the pet shop, an Actor Allusion to her voice actress Aya Endo's role as Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier.
  • When Kagami wakes up in a compromising position, it plays an imitation invoked of the 24 beeps (previously used in episode 17).
  • Minoru tries to sell the girls Sergeant Keroro and Private Tamama.
  • In the same vein Minoru spouts the line "I am Zero! I have returned"
  • In the volleyball game, Konata calls out her serve similar to how a certain Bleach character fires his attack

    Other
  • The name of Konata's MMORPG is never given, but the BGM for it is "Filna Fatansy"
  • A strip in the last bonus section of manga volume 7 points out the Vocaloid resemblances (Kagami - Miku, Tsukasa - Rin, Miyuki - Lukanote ).
  • Also in manga volume 7: when Kagami complained about Konata's huge (and growing) Dating Sim backlog, Konata wished she had the ability of Keima Katsuragi.
  • Keima was again referenced in Volume 8: over an online chat Kuroi mentioned there's been an increasing number of openly otaku students. When Konata asked for details, Kuroi said "there's this one who was playing on his portable game machine during class. It seemed like a Dating Sim, and the guy was really into it."
  • A manga strip revolves around what happens when Konata tries to use machine translation, with "type moon".
  • In one episode, Konata has what appears to be a model of Goku preparing a Spirit Bomb on her desk.
  • The opening song intro mimics the one from the 1980 Kaibutsu-kun anime. Tsukasa says "Hungah!", which is the tag line from the character Franken in the show.
  • The opening dance has a lot of similarity to 5, 6, 7, 8.
