Shout Out / Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

  • The mission "Corner Kids" chains a string of references to The Wire right in the opening scene.
  • "Dropping In" has Bulgarin's right-hand man Timur accompanying Luis to keep an eye on him. On the way to the destination, Luis tries to strike up a conversation with the gangster, only to be threateningly turned down. Luis' response? '... Total fucking silence...' Try to pan the journey out a bit for the sake of comedy.
  • Marki Ashvili, who Luis is tasked with killing in the above mission so Bulgarin can buy his hockey team, seems to be based on Roman Abramovich, Russian billionaire and then (in 2009) owner of Chelsea FC, who has been rumored to have mob ties.
  • Early on, Tony gives Luis an Assault SMG, which Luis describes as "some sci-fi shit." The weapon is essentially a silenced FN P90, which players might recognize from Stargate SG-1. Given the futuristic aesthetic of the P90, Luis has a point about the weapon not looking out of place in a sci-fi movie.
  • One of the club management missions has you rescuing a duo of Jonas Brothers expies called the The Blue Brothers.
  • The Maisonette 9 is inspired by the New York nightclub Bungalow 8, particularly the interior, name, and wealthy clientele. Hercules meanwhile may be inspired by the gay bar Julius', which was the site of a "sip-in" that established the right for gay patrons to be served liquor in NYC. Finally, Bahama Mamas, being a trendy, mainstream club, is likely a nod to Pacha NYC, a spinoff of a famous club in Ibiza.
