Fisheye Placebo is a DeviantArt webcomic. As such, you can expect a plethora of references from all over popular culture.

A majority of the Shout Outs make note of works with similar tones and themes to Fisheye Placebo, as well as drop real programming lingo in relevant situations. Additionally, the author Yuumei makes commentary that points out some of the easier ones.

• The foreshadowed demonstrations make reference to the modern-day anti-government movements Anonymous and Occupy.
• The police mascot and crest of the Bureau of Information Technology and Civil Harmony, Solar Eye Division at the end of the chapter bears resemblance to the same objects of the Civil Safety Bureau in Psycho-Pass.

Chapter 0: Hello World!

• Throughout this chapter, Vance and Alex talk to each other via latent Leet Lingo and ASCII Art.
• The symbol on Alex's laptop is the clover symbol of 4chan.
• Vance, in explaining his plan, pulls off a solid Gendo Pose.
• In the background of Vance's room, one can see both a pixel Mario and a Red Mushroom plush.
• There are images of the RX-78 and a Dating Sim on Vance's computer.
• The format of the website B-Social is clearly a rip from Facebook.
  • Additionally, the B-Social page includes references to Pokémon, "Red Cow", and Boku No Pico. The Boku no Pico reference counts as a Fourth Wall Break Fan Fic, as Alex's links Vance to a tumblr account called "Boku no Placebo".
• Vance, in chatting with "Robin", says, "This isn't even my final form!".
• Red Cow again, only this time they now make cereal.
• Oh, so that's what 2G1H stands for. Also, more Red Cow.
  • Yuumei notes that 2G1H is a Stealth Pun referring to Trojan horse malware.
• Frey's Trojan program 604753.BACKDOOR uses Goatse as a symbol.
  • Additionally, the physical manifestation of the Trojan program wears a mask similar to Hei's mask in Darker than Black.
• During the car ride, Vance is seen playing Pokédex 3D Pro on his Nintendo 3DS.

• The consistent use of the police face to censor a nude Vance is similar to that of The Laughing Man from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

• The officers covering up the Cheshire Writer's art talk about Bob Ross.

• To SpongeBob SquarePants. An Instaspam user's handle is SpongeBobSquarePlant and another user's handle is SquidwardSama (with a profile picture of Handsome Squidward, no less).
