Series: The Midnight Special
An NBC music Variety Show, which ran from 1973 to 1981. It was one of the very first shows to break past the average 1AM sign-off time, as well as one of the very first to eschew lip-synching in favor of straight-up live performances. The show primarily consisted of live musical acts from popular performers, with the occasional dip into archival concert footage and comedy performances.
- The Announcer: Wolfman Jack
- The Host: The show operated on a rotating series of guest hosts akin to Saturday Night Live, with Helen Reddy taking over as a constant for the '75-'76 season.
- Real Song Theme Tune: The folk song "Midnight Special", as covered by Johnny Rivers.
- Unintentional Period Piece: Yep, that's The Seventies, alright.
