Series: Lawman
Lawman is an American Western television series originally telecast from 1958 to 1962 on ABC. It starred John Russell as Marshal Dan Troop and Peter Brown as Deputy Marshal Johnny McKay.

Lawman is the story of Marshal Dan Troop of Larmie, Wyoming and his deputy Johnny McKay, an orphan Troop took under his wing. In the second season, Lily Merrill opens The Birdcage Saloon, where she sings and entertains, and has a close unspoken relationship with Troop.

Lawman contains examples of:

  • Fastest Gun in the West: Marshall Dan Troop (to his surprise) finds himself outdrawn by a professional gunfighter. While recovering from his wounds, the Marshall realises that while the gunman is faster, he doesn't have time to aim correctly, so he must goad his target into coming closer. Marshall Troop confronts the gunman again and this time keeps his distance, winning the fatal shootout.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: In "The Joker", outlaw Barney Tremain claims to be Johnny McKay's real father. It is left unresolved whether he was telling the truth or not.
  • Young Gun: Johnny McKay is this in early seasons. He gains maturity as the show goes on.
