->"My name is Oliver Queen. After five years in hell, I returned home with only one goal: to save my city. But my old approach wasn't enough. I had to become someone else. I had to become something else. I had to become... the Green Arrow."
-->-- Oliver Queen, a.k.a. "the Green Arrow", Season Four Opening Narration

Arrow is a television series from Creator/TheCW based on the Creator/DCComics character ComicBook/GreenArrow. It started airing in 2012 and is currently in its fourth season. A more realistic and grounded adaptation of DC's Green Arrow comics, it was the show that began the Franchise/ArrowVerse.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Creator/StephenAmell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira (Creator/SusannaThompson), beloved sister Thea (Creator/WillaHolland), and best friend Tommy (Creator/ColinDonnell) welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. Oliver keeps quiet about the man he’s become, as he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as an arrogant, unfaithful playboy. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance (Creator/KatieCassidy), which is a complicated affair as he was cheating on her with her sister, Sara (Creator/CaityLotz Jacqueline McInnes Wood in the Pilot), who Oliver watched die in the shipwreck of the Queen's Gambit.

As Oliver plays the role of the wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be, he secretly creates the persona of the Hood – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. In his mission, he is flanked by John Diggle (Creator/DavidRamsey), his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, Felicity Smoak (Creator/EmilyBettRickards), a Queen Consolidated I.T specialist, and Roy Harper (Creator/ColtonHaynes), a street kid who needed guidance – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness.

Flashbacks to the island reveal that Oliver was far from alone those five years, dealing with paramilitary forces, Mad Scientists and being trained by Slade Wilson (Creator/ManuBennett) to be the vigilante he is today. In the present day, Oliver finds himself taking on an organization far more dangerous than he anticipated, headed by Malcolm Merlyn (Creator/JohnBarrowman). Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The show follows the comics in BroadStrokes, playing the line between staying faithful to the source and keeping the audience surprised. Those unfamiliar with the comics will miss some Mythology Gags and references to important characters in the DCU, but the series enjoys employing Red Herrings to keep even the comics fans on their toes. The shows goal was to depict an evolving group of characters who may be closer or further from their comics origins, but through CharacterDevelopment may eventually grow into the classical characters. Oliver started his mission as a ruthless vigilante killing enemies without hesitation, but has a change of heart when he sees the negative effect it has on the city, his allies, friends and family.

Despite some hesitation regarding the seriesA different version of Green Arrow was a cast member on Series/Smallville, and the DarkerAndEdgier tone of Arrow didn't help concerns, with many detractors saying it felt like the writers wanted to do a Batman show instead, the show ended up highly acclaimed for the cinematic presentation and having a strong cast. It brought in high ratings for The CW and was such a success it lead to the creation of a televised SharedUniverse known as the "Franchise/Arrowverse." Barry Allen, played by Creator/GrantGustin, was introduced in a two-part episode in the second season and showed the event that would turn him into Franchise/TheFlash at the very end of the episode. His spinoff show Series/TheFlash2014 premiered alongside Arrow's third season. Its success would expand the universe again with an animated web series on CW Seed focusing on ComicBook/Vixen, set in the same continuity. Soon after a third spinoff was created, Series/LegendsOfTomorrow, following other DC characters introduced between the two shows in a team-up to combat unique threats, starring Creator/BrandonRouth as Ray Palmer / the A.T.O.M. and Creator/CaityLotz as Sarah Lance / the Canary alongside others. Following the cancellation of Series/Constantine, in the fourth season Creator/MattRyan showed up reprising the title character, retroactively incorporating that show into the shared universe.

Has a character sheet with the main characters, recurring characters, and the villains as well as a recap page.
