Shadow Warden: 70.197.81.18, your edits and the reasoning behind them seem rather unfounded. Nielsen ratings are not, and never have been, a very good measure of a show's quality. And there has been a definite upswing in quality since Fuller's return to the show. Your Mileage May Vary was part of my edit for a reason - it does vary. Your opinion is not fact and I'm going to ask you not to revert my edit of the introductory paragraphs again. Thanks.

Addenum: I'm serious. Can we at least talk about this?

Looney Toons: Oooookay, obviously the reorganiztion I suggested has happened. I suppose I should work my way up the Recent Changes page until I find an announcement of what I should be doing, coding-wise, now.

Gus: The Series.Heroes thing is a band-aid. I seriously need to break off some time to do the data re-org. For the nonce, references to other entries in Heroes will need to point back to the main group via a Main.WhatEver markup.

Main.Gus: Finally had a chance to spin the first two episodes of this. The show is really strong.

Ununnilium: Are those actually Arc Words, BTW? I've only heard about the show secondhand, sadly.

Tabby: I really don't think they are. Sure, there's some mystery as to what they mean (the full phrase is "Save the cheerleader, save the world" with no indication yet of how they're connected), but the phrase is neither especially prevalent or prone to cropping up inexplicably. The symbol, though, is arguably an arc word despite not being a word at all.

Seth: Thats what i thought, only one person has said Save The Cheerleader, Save the world and they only said it once so it really doesn't count. The double helix symbol however has its own wikipedia article... just like Badwolf and Torchwood did before their meanings were established.

Tabby: Also, I removed the symbol examples just because I could think of half a dozen more off the top of my head and I suspect that leaving them would encourage other people to add to the list and this entry would eventually collapse under its own weight. I can probably get a couple screenshots, though; it deserves an illustratin at least.

Seth: I added an entry to Arc Words and linked it to the wiki that lists them all that should cover it.

Janitor: The first six episodes will be marathon-ed on Sci-Fi channel on 29 NOV starting about ... now.

Seth: Removed "Are you on the list" since it has been said once in passing as a veiled threat to a character. Since only 2 characters know about "The list" it could only have happened between them and doesn't make an arc word (Though it was a great line, spectacular timing from Jack Coleman).

Tabby: Considering how much the line's been hyped in the promo campaign, I suspect it's going to continue to come up.

Seth: An Ad gimmick isn't an arc word. You might be able to speculate from them but chances are they are just trying to sell the series. Wait until its actually been said on air enough times (Not in adverts, in the actual show or tie in graphic novels) then put it back (Like we did above with the cheerleader line, we waited for enough people to say it for it to become an arc word). At least that's what i think, the producers of heroes are very ad savvy it just seems like a gimmick to me. The line itself can't become an arc word, who would ask? Mohinder has the list so he knows, and anyone who hasn't shown powers wouldn't possibly know about the list so there is no point in bennet asking. I think that it is a one off line.

Indigo: Can't we just put:
  • Save the cheerleader, Save the World
  • Are You On The List
as Viral Marketing instead, since that's what they seem to have been made for/accomplished?

Kizor: Just popping in here, one eye closed and the other one unfocused so that I don't see anything too spoilery, to say that after the first two episodes I'm SO damn addicted. Woo!

Tabby: Narrowly subverted when Isaac actually gets his head scooped by Sylar. I don't see how this is a subversion. It's exactly what he painted happening. (a second later) Or rather, I don't see how it's related to Prophecy Twist.

(later still) Got it now. Thanks for the rewrite!

Ruthie A: Do you think this show is an example(or perhaps subversion or aversion) of the Sliding Scale Of Idealism Versus Cynicism, as it has characters and situations from various places on it? I'd list it in the article, but I'm not sure if it's really an example, or if I've just spent too much time on this wiki and am just seeing troupes where there aren't any.

Tabby: I think that's an excellent observation and I think it merits inclusion. Almost all the characters have been sliding up or down the scale throughout the season, with the really major players all starting to meet somewhere in the middle around the end.

Tabby: Just 'cause I was randomly inspired to go on a on a mini nitpicking spree: Bennet. One 'T.'
Fast Eddie: Why are we spoiler-fonting Heroes? Is there some part of the world where the first season has not aired in completion?

Cassius335: Terrestrial (non-satellite) UK only just started showing it.

Fast Eddie: Ah. My bad. In other news ... Reading through the examples it seems like the series is about HRG (Bennet). Maybe it is. No problem with that. Just sayin'.

Main/Vampedvixen: How about these A God Am I (Adam) and Living With The Villain (Mohinder & Zane.. sort of.. on Mohinder's side at least)

Fast Eddie: De-spoiler fonted. The big banner was warning enough.

TTD: So, third season opener... I think they are aware of us...

Indigo: I'd say so. Niki gone in favor of a new character who bears an uncanny resemblance seems to be a capitulation to the fans who hated the Niki/Jessica "drama". And Sylar not eating brains? That seems to have been abandoned to dial back Sylar's level of squicky evilness. Rumor has it there's a Heel Face Turn coming.

TTD: I was actually thinking more of lines like Claire asking, "What kind of lame power is that anyway?" Also, perhaps I'm in the minority, but the revelation that Sylar basically fingerbangs his victim's brains is... worse.

{Tal9922}: Removed the entire comment about Bennet's first name as it is really rather pointless spoilering. Also removing the blueling in the description of Sylar finding entertaining ways to kill his victims linking to Draco in Leather Pants. While Sylar's fanbase may employ that trope, his creative killings should, if anything, abate such a fanbase.

Fast Eddie: Moving over some natter inspired by another instance of "10% of your brain..."
  • ** This troper remembers yelling loudly, "The TV people are doing it again!" "Doing what?" "Being stupid." Goddamn, people. Seriously.

Red Viking: Removed Freudian Excuse. It would be one if Syler kept killing people after The Reveal that his powers drive him to murder. But it looks like he honestly wants to keep that from happening.

Haven: Well, the "mother wanted him to be special" thing counts, even though it was later retconned. But since he killed that random rental guy with comparatively light provocation (he could have just bent the gun with telekinesis, or even used his silver tongue to convince him that Elle was lying about his serial killing, and gone on his way...incidentally, how Narm-y were that dude's lines?!)...

—- Haven: What does the "one winged angel" mention refer to exactly? Mohinder appears to be doing a gradual version of this - or he was, til the eclipse started up - but teasing in mid season 1...?
Andrew: So now that Sylar is officially NOT a Petrelli brother, it looks like a lot of examples are gonna need some rewriting. Good luck y'all. =p
Haven: The Halnans Razor example is so very accurate. Especially considering that the first thing we saw him do was shoot Nathan 'cause he thought that would help...also, apparently this applies so much that the Butterfly Effect for him becomes "step on a butterfly, a year later three million people are dead". (The scary part is it's the lady who sees the future who's saying that, so presumably that is actually how it works in this universe. o.o)
Haven: Took out this lengthy Justifying Edit from under Forgotten Phlebotinum; the bulk of it doesn't even apply to that trope. Also, given that Noah was resurrected from a bullet going through his head, after a much longer period than Nathan, I don't think brain death would have been an issue.
  • This editor took the events to mean that Nathan had been dead too long and there was nothing to bring back due to brain damage and other stuff that happens when you die, not to mention the blood loss. While her blood may have been able to heal the wound, it may not have been enough to truly revive him in any meaningful way. For this editor, the Fridge Logic part comes in to play in the future. Surely Sylar/Nathan will eventually notice that he's not aging much like Claire, is picking up things he probably shouldn't be, and a host of other things. Depends on how much Matt locked away though I suppose.
  • Thank you! This edit was really bothering me, as it was trying and failing to justify the BIGGEST Dethroning Moment Of Suck for this Wall Banger episode. Noah had been in the morgue for hours, if not DAYS, shot through the eye, and Claire brought him back just fine with no problems, but it was game over with a fingerflick for Nathan, who survived a sibling nuclear bomb and being shot in the chest repeatedly?! Seriously?!... ... ... KRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING! You got some 'splainin' to do!

Caswin: I keep seeing the Big Bad of volume four listed as the US Government at large. Does that not sound right to anyone else? It gives me a Writer On Board vibe every time I see it.
Haven: Re the comment "Watchmen? How?" under X Meets Y—the first season plan is probably an homage, except without a giant squid. The ethics of the Company are much like those of Watchmen's Big Bad.
Tragic The Dragon: For the curious, and for the sake of completion, here is the original Aborted Arc entry:
Sucks to be anyone who was going to be a part of the "Origins" spin-off Anthology Series teased near the end of the first Volume. Also sucks to be the characters who had powers related to deadly viral contagions, as they arrived in the country too late to be part of the Volume Two storyline about a deadly viral contagion. It also sucks to be one of the twelve villains who all took a backseat to Arthur Petrelli in Volume Three. And Adam, who was supposed to be the key to everything. And Knox's revenge arc. And Peter's "hunger". And both he and Claire going dark for, like, a week. And Sylar's aborted redemption arc. And Nathan's religious politics. And Company Bob. And Sylar's unexplained murderous hunger. And Elle's Power Incontinence. And Ando's future betrayal of Hiro. And Nathan's Heel Face Turn from season one. And what the hell was that eclipse about? And what does Pinehearst actually *do*? And what was going on with Malcolm McDowell? And for crying out loud, maybe they could explain why everyone having powers somehow leads to the Earth exploding...

Peteman: Responding to:

Yes, but Angela Petrelli is not unrepentantly bad. This was referring to her, not to Sylar.

Who called her out? That's what a What The Hell Hero is, a character being called out for their dickish, dubious, or flat out monstrous behaviour. Not a character acting dickish, dubious, or monstrous.

Tal9922: This line:

Umm...what? How does this have anything to do with the trope?

Majutsukai: Take a guess.
