Maurice Gee is a novelist from Whakatane, New Zealand. His stories predominantly feature the kind of "small town New Zealand" aesthetic, and cover themes such as relations between sexesnote , and occasionally elaborate fantasy worlds.
His seventh novel, Under the Mountain, has been adapted into a feature length film.
It is also fair to say that some of his work qualifies as quirky.
