As a very long running and influential shonen manga, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been referenced many times in pop culture. These usually come in three different flavors: An Art Shift to Araki's art style (complete with on-screen sound effects), Jotaro's Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs (with a cry of "ORAORAORAORA!") and/or an image of Star Platinum, and of course, the fabulous posing. This has resulted in "Is that a JoJo reference?" becoming a meme in its own right.

    Anime & Manga
  • In Chapter 250 of Black Clover, with the power of a familiar created by her Food Magic, Charmy unleashes a barrage of punches while yelling "LAALAALAALAALAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
  • In a combination of the trope and Actor Allusion, Cardfight!! Vanguard (V Series) during a recap episode has Yuichiro Kanzaki drawn in the artstyle of Stardust Crusaders.
  • Cells at Work!: Effector T Cell is an Expy of various Jojo protagonists, from his overall design, his over the top manliness, use of Megaton Punches, and chanting "ORA ORA ORA" when attacking.
  • Food Wars!: Chapter 71/Season 2 Episode 2 concludes with Ryou and Megumi facing off with their respective food-based Fighting Spirits (which are modelled after King Crimson and Gold Experience respectively), yelling "HOTA HOTA HOTA!"note  and "EBI EBI EBI"note  as they punch wildly a la JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, in the appropriate art style.
  • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: In one of the Tachikoma Days shorts, a Tachikoma gets a Stand which it uses to reset the world. Two for the price of one: not only does the Tachikoma pronounce "The World" as "Za Warudo", but the Stand's ability to reset the world references Made In Heaven, another JoJo's Stand which actually can reset the universe.
  • Gintama: Episodes 131-134 are full of references to the series, including the Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs and an Expy of Star Platinum called "Star Silver". There's also a nod to Araki himself, with a nod to the Memetic Mutation of his tendency to look younger and younger as he ages (the show suggests he is, perhaps, an immortal fairy).
  • In Chapter 158 of GTO: The Early Years, when Ryuji fights Kiwamezawa, he lets loose a flurry of Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs while yelling "Ora ora ora ora!"
  • One particular episode of Hayate the Combat Butler has head butler Klaus suffer a nervous breakdown after being forced into a vacation. His antics culminate in him running around an Elaborate University High while wearing a copy of the stone mask that turned Dio into a vampire. When the mask is broken by Yukiji Katsura (mimicking the original JoJo's Ki Manipulation, no less), he proceeds to call out "WRYYYYYYYYYYYY!". Another episode has Talking Animal Tama wearing Jotaro's Signature Headgear in one scene, while his Catchphrase ("Yareyare da ze") is displayed in the background... But then again, Tama and Jotaro have the same voice actor.
    • It's even funnier in the second series when the narrator, voiced by Norio Wakamoto, says ZA WARUDO for a commercial break, because he did the voice of Dio for the CD Drama.
  • Keijo!!!!!!!!: In the anime's first episode, Nozomi's butt pierces through a wall of water to attack. This sequence was clearly inspired by the scene in Steel Ball Run where Tusk act 4 breaks through Love Train to attack Valentine.
  • Molester Man occasionally has an Art Shift making the characters resemble popular manga artwork styles like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Also, one of the restaurants is named "Jonathan Joestar".
  • In one episode of Monster Musume, Centorea talks about her honorable centaur knight ancestors with Kimihito, and he can clearly see them appearing behind her. "Are those Stands or what?" asks him. They promptly disappear.
  • Asuma Sarutobi of Naruto uses some of Jotaro's lines. Same VA? Yeah.
  • No Game No Life's anime adaptation makes several references:
    • Episode 2: Stephanie reacts to seeing Sora's new outfit by doing DIO's signature pose and "WRRYYYYYY!" noise.
    • Episode 3 has an Art Shift to Araki's art style when Shiro and Sora declare that they won't lose. As well as lifting the refusal quote from Rohan Kishibe's "BUT I REFUSE/DAGA KOTOWARU."
    • Episode 8 has them yell "KING CRIMSON!" before seemingly teleporting instantly.
  • Meowth in Pokémon the Series: XY episode 57 has a 4 in 1 reference — he does poses inspired by Jotaro, Joseph, and Dio; all while repeatedly saying "It's useless-nya!" (Dio's catchphrase).
  • Another Actor Allusion happens with Taizou Kiritsubo, leader of B.A.B.E.L. in Psychic Squad. When trying to wake up Director Fujiko, after several ineffectual attempts, he just bangs on her door while shouting "ORAORAORAORAORA!".
  • Puni Puni☆Poemi: The alien that Nabeshin fights uses Jotaro Kujo's Star Platnium Stand to deflect Nabeshin's attack, complete with ORAORAORAORA. Nabeshin lampshades this by noting that "it's kind of Stand-ish...".
  • In a flashback in Rosario + Vampire, Kahlua gives her little sister Moka a scare by sneaking up behind her while wearing the Stone Mask.
  • Rurouni Kenshin: Kaoru has rained (mostly harmless) blows on Kenshin backed by the "ORAORAORA" sound effect.
  • In one episode of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Kamina uses Dio's battlecry of "MUDAHMUDAHMUDAHMUDAH!". In another, Kittan uses Jotaro's "ORAORAORAORA!".
  • Time Stop Hero: When Kuzuno Sekai learns he can stop time, he compares himself to Dio while contemplating that he's basically invincible as long as he doesn't meet anyone with a similar power, recalling how Jotaro countered Dio's time stop with his own.
  • Wish is a Boys' Love flavored manga centering two characters who, rumors say, are shojo-style Expies of Jotaro and Kakyoin. CLAMP are known JoJo fans, so...
  • Jibanyan does the ORAORAORA punching in Yo-kai Watch: Shadowside - The Return of the Oni King.
  • In some bonus content for Yuugai Shitei Doukyuusei, the author says, "The simplest method to make a good manga is to take a good manga, and just rip it off. In other words, Jojo." Next to it is a closeup from a previous chapter of a bottle of hand cream called Hand Creamson.

    Fan Works
Popcorn: Boo! You thought I was regular popcorn...but it was me! Uh...Popcorn!
  • Pokémon Crossing: Due to the author being a huge fan of the series, there's multiple references to be found:
    • Holly (the main protagonist) has a five-point star birthmark on her shoulder and even nicknames her Pokémon Jojo.
    • Two characters share an exchange:
      Apollo: Oh, you're approaching me?
Hollyhock: I can't beat you without getting closer!
    • The phrase "bizarre adventure" appears at the end of several chapters, along with "To be continued".
    • Apollo is based on Jotaro: Both wear long black coats no matter the weather, are muscular, and can't stand their swarms of fangirls. He even shotguns a beer like Jotaro does.

    Film — Animation

    Literature
  • Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!: This series references JoJo all the time. To name just one example, in the first novel (or Episode 2 of the Animated Adaptation), Nyarko defeats Cuko while quoting some of the more famous lines from the Final Battle of Stardust Crusaders, including "There's one simple reason for your defeat...it's because you pissed me off!" "MUDA MUDA MUDA!" and finally "Yare yare daze", the last while performing Jotaro's signature pose.
  • Oreshura: Masuzu is a huge fan of the series, and even quotes Dio when she kisses Eita for the first time (knowing he's a fellow fan of the series). Eita refuses to clean his mouth out with dirty rainwater, though.
  • Gabriel Miller's death in Sword Art Online references the death of Yoshikage Kira in Diamond Is Unbreakable: Both involve a villain of the arc, the soul of a girl the villain killed years ago, and the villain's soul being Dragged Off to Hell.

    Live-Action TV
  • Heroes: In S2E2 and S3E2, Hiro (who is Japanese, a geek, and has the power to stop time) yells "MUDAMUDAMUDA!" as he pauses time and steals weapons off a mob that is about to attack a girl.
  • Tomica Hero Rescue Fire ends with Donkaen frozen solid and forced to drift eternally through space just like Kars.

    Music
  • Lovebites have said that their song "Don't Bite the Dust" was named after Yoshikage Kira's Stand.
  • Open Mike Eagle's song "Bucciarati" uses zippers as a metaphor for trying to put his life back together.
    Sorry to call you in
    I needed a helping hand
    Broken the zip again
    Broken the zip again
Trying to fill up my bag
    To carry a couple grand
    Broken the zip again
    Broken the zip again

    Video Games
  • A cat unit in The Battle Cats called Delinquent Cat has his own stand that looks like Star Platinum. His attack animation even imitates his Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs.
  • In The Binding of Isaac, there are two co-op exclusive familiars called "Crazy Ghost Baby" and "Pompadour Baby", modeled after Crazy Diamond and Josuke respectively.
  • Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, made by the same guy who made the Metroidvanias, continues the tradition with superboss Orlok Fahrenheit Dracule, a powerful vampire who fights with a time stopping power. And if the player holds Up in the D-Pad, Miriam will two poses; first a pose by Josuke and another by Dio. It's also possible to find a stone mask that Miriam can wear.
  • Castlevania series has a lot of them, especially in its Metroidvania era:
  • In Corpse Party (PC-98), after defeating the Big Bad and reaching Classroom 2-9 before the bell ring ten times, Satoshi and his friends must face one last trial: Keep walking forward without turning around until they are face to face with a situation similar to Ghost Girl's Alley situation from Diamond is Unbreakable. Turning around at this point will result in Game Over scene regardless of the characters' health condition.

    • During the first trial, Teruteru tries to prove he's not guilty by saying you can tell that a person is lying by licking their sweat.
  • Death Road to Canada has the Rare Characters who are "Stamp Users". These characters can summon "Stamps", which are "manifestations of intense psychic power, but they pretty much just punch things". These characters are all Captain Ersatzes of characters in popular culture, like "E*FUDD" or "H. Heck".
  • In Demon Turf, neon signs of the “menacing” kanji appear in various areas, mainly New Neo City.
  • In Destiny 2 Lightfall, an emote called 'Torturous Dance' was added where three player characters can re-enact Narancia, Mista, and Fugo's memetic dance
  • In Epic Battle Fantasy, when Lance uses his Oblivion Limit Break, he would smash his tank on his enemies while screaming "WWWWWRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYY!!!".
  • In the Henry Stickmin Series, one of the Fails on the "Revenged" route of Completing the Mission is an extra-long JoJo parody: after being left for dead and given cybernetic enhancements, Henry activates his "Spirit Forme" to battle the Right Hand Man Reborn. The two have a Stand fight while speaking in Gratuitous Japanese, and mimicking the English sub and dub's penchant for using lawyer-friendly alternatives to Stand and character names, their speech refers to their Stands as Tribute and Time in a Bottle in Gratuitous English, while the subtitles call them Reference and Bottled Time and use the word "Spirit" in place of "Stand". The sequence ends with a spoof of the "To Be Continued" meme.
  • The King of Fighters: Polnareff inspired Benimaru Nikaido, to the point SNK still calls him "Polnareff" internally.
  • Monster Super League has a massive Jojo homage in the form of the newly introduced Traveler Nezz.
    • The event introducing Nezz was called Nezz's Bizarre Adventure, a tribute to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure itself.
    • Traveler Nezz's Active Skill references Dio's The World, being a set of Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs called MUDA MUDA MUDA!
    • The biography for Dark Explorer Nezz sees it caught eating the protagonist's snacks. When asked how many snacks it has eaten, it echoes Dio's question to Zepelli by asking if the protagonist keeps track of how many pieces of bread they have eaten in their life.
  • In Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, the Investigation Team makes their entrance in the Persona 3 path by doing various Ass-Kicking Poses of the JoJo characters.
  • Pharaoh Rebirth has among the artifacts one that summons the spirit of the protagonist's ancestor, which looks and acts just like a Stand.
  • Mobile game Potion Maker has "This taste... is the taste of a liar!" as one of the random quotes the characters say during the gameplay (referring to the potions, of course).

    • Necalli from V is more than similar to the Pillar Men.
  • Skullgirls:
    • Peacock may randomly drop a steamroller on her enemies. If this happens, the sky will darken, time will stop, and she'll yell "WRRYYYYYY!" and finish off the enemy with a chant of "MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA!" Anime!Peacock also has a chance to say "MUDAMUDA!" "Withdraw cooly!" "Yare yare," and "But I refuse!"
    • Big Band's Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs finisher is called "TUBATUBATUBATUBATUBA", and uses the same button input as Dio's Space Ripper Stingy Eyes move from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future. His Level 5 super also resembles DIO's time stop.
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
    • "Bites the Dust" is an enemy-only attack that inflicts the Bomb ailment on a target. The target will explode and die instantly if attacked again.

  • Tekken: Polnareff inspired Paul Phoenix's look.
    • The Into the Stratosphere stage from 8 was inspired by the final battle between Joseph and Kars.
  • Terraria: The Stardust armor set summons a Stardust Guardian for its set bonus. The guardian resembles a stand and will chase down and rapidly punch enemies.
  • In Them's Fightin' Herds Velvet has an alternate color palette that resembles Pet Shop, and her icicle projectile is very similar to the one used by him in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future. There's also a "Greaser Pompadour" cosmetic that looks like Josuke's hair.

  • Undertale has Mad Dummy, a member of the undead who throws a knife as a weapon and shouts, "Futile! FUTILE! FUTILE!!!", being reminiscent of the phrase, "Useless, useless, useless!", which is what DIO's "MUDAMUDAMUDA" translates to.
    • Also the Punch Card, which powers up punch attacks. If you use it in battle, it gives you the message "OOOORAAAAA!!!"
    • The Nintendo Switch version features Mad Mew Mew as an enemy. One of her dialogue lines is "It was ME!! ME!! ME!!", in reference to Dio's infamous quote "It was me, Dio!"/"Kono Dio da!" from Part 1, in addition to having a facial expression that's directly pulled from the aforementioned moment. One of many hints pointing to it being the ghost that once inhabited the Mad Dummy.
  • In World of Warcraft, an achievement obtainable during the battle against the Final Boss of Legion is titled "Stardust Crusaders".
  • Prior to his role as Dio, Takehito Koyasu voiced Saiou in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, who used a tarot-themed deck that included a monster named Arcana Force XXI - The World, which had an effect to skip the opponent's turn. In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, Koyasu is clearly hamming it up in homage of DIO for his voicelines involving The World.
  • XBlaze: Yuki mentions liking something called "JohnJohn's Eccentric Exploits" in Code: Embryo, commenting that "it's pretty darn good, if a little bizarre."

    Web Animation

Alucard: And before you ask, YES! THIS IS A JOJO REFERENCE! (Strikes a pose)

  • DuckTales (2017): Lena uses her magic to freeze time a la The World. Shortly afterwards Steelbeak makes a remark about a "bazaar adventure."
  • The last seconds of the Family Guy episode "Brief Encounter" replicates the David Productions anime's "To Be Continued" screens from Parts 1 and 2, with a sepiatone freezeframe, the arrow sliding in, and "Roundabout" playing. This specifically references the screens' meme status, as Stewie called it a "To Be Continued meme".
  • OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes
    • In "The Power is Yours," Captain Planet strikes a very JJBA-esque pose.
    • In "Wisdom, Strength, and Charisma," Enid wins a battle by summoning a Stand-like Fighting Spirit that somewhat resembles Killer Queen (ironically, that episode was released around the same time Diamond is Unbreakable started airing on Toonami.)
  • In the PAW Patrol episode "Mission PAW: Royally Spooked!", four knights do the poses of Killer Queen, Joseph, Caesar and Josuke.
  • Villainous: One shot directly mimics the memetic "DIO and Jotaro walking towards each other" shot, with Demencia even saying "He's approaching me!"
