• In the Discworld novel The Fifth Elephant, Vimes is on the run in foreign parts when he encounters three sisters in a cherry orchard (without cherries). Vimes then borrows a pair of trousers (the Gloomy and Purposeless Trousers of Uncle Vanya) from them.

  • One of the recruitable companions is named after Chekhov. There's a rifle hanging over her old house's fireplace.
