Tropes
- Canine Companion: Ares finds a dog under the log. While he was skeptical over how useful the dog can be. When the dog defended him by biting Xena's butt, he took a quick liking to the companion.
- Catfight: Averted. Xena and Gabrielle may not have been fighting for real, but they made it as real as they could. Notable that none of the warlords were interested in seeing the end of the fight.
- A Dog Named "Dog": Subverted. Instead of going with the obvious name, he goes by the name of 'Horace', which is suspiciously similar to 'horse'. Made even funnier when the owner came back for the dog.That's not a dog. It's a horse. We breed 'em small around here.
- Fake a Fight: Xena and Gabrielle come to blows to make it seem that Gabrielle betrayed her by giving out Ares' location. It's intense enough that Gasgar decided to leave them be than see how the fight goes.
- First Gray Hair: Grebe points out that Ares' hair is beginning to grey, visibly annoying the former god of war.
- Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: Ares only has a few seconds to realize that the roof is collapsing under him.Ares: Of course.
- Girl Next Door: Greba. Ares takes an immediate liking to the woman.
- Hates My Secret Identity: Greba reveals that she doesn't like war, which is an issue with the former god of war.
- Home Sweet Home: Xena takes Ares to her birthplace, or more specifically the house where she was born in.
- Lured into a Trap: The ultimate plan get Gasgar out of Ares' hair.Ares: So, what happened to Gasgar?
Xena:Oh, he headed with the others towards the Pultruis Caves. He thought you were hiding out there for some reason.
Ares: That would be the Pultruis where the beast of the 7 heads makes his lair?
Gabrielle: Eight heads... and not one of them is friendly. - Nostalgia Filter: Both Xena and Gabrielle were feeling nostalgic for their past farm life. Xena later admits it's part of the reason why she chose the disguise for Ares
- Rip Tailoring: When Ares asks Gabrielle to serve as a distraction to get him ready, Gabrielle responds by ripping her shirt open. Even Ares in impressed.
- Sound-Effect Bleep: The first time it is used in the entire series.Xena:How are you at shovelin' $#!^?
- There Is Only One Bed: Xena, Gabrielle and Ares have to share the only dry bed in the house, leading to a hilarious sequence of awkwardness.
