Spyke joins a skateboarding contest sponsored by "Pow-R 8" soda. However, Pow-R 8 is harmful to mutants, and when Spyke drinks a swig, his mutation greatly advances, poisons, and disfigures him seriously. He is saved by the Morlocks, and in the end, Spyke joins them.

Tropes included:

  • Aborted Arc: The end of the episode has Spear wanting to produce more of the soda to cause more problems for mutants, but this is never brought up again.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Berzerker receives some more focus and proves crucial in alerting the X-Men to what the Morlocks are doing with Spyke, further hinting at a past with them.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Kitty uses her phasing powers while driving. She's so reckless that she manages to make Wolverine, a mutant with a known healing factor, scared for his life.
  • May Contain Evil: Power-8 is a delicious, refreshing sports drink - unless you happened to be a mutant, in which case it’s poisonous.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: One of the skaters accuse Spyke of using his powers during the contest, not knowing that his powers don't work that way at all; not that he ever planned to anyway.
  • Oh, Crap!: Xavier's reaction when he discovers Logan's not driving his limo, Kitty is.
  • Put on the Bus: Evan leaves the X-Men when his powers start to grow out of control and joins the Morlocks.
  • Spanner in the Works: Berzerker realizes Spyke is with the Morlocks and tells Professor Xavier.
  • You Owe Me: A recurring gag is that each of Kitty's teachers owe each other a favor on teaching her to drive; Jean and Scott tells Logan that he owes them, which leads to Logan telling Xavier that he owes him one. The episode ends with Kitty driving Xavier back to the mansion.
