Part 1 of the Gobbowl Arc

The group has made it to the port town of Bonta, where they can get a ride to Oma Island! Except, none of the ship captains want to sail near such a dangerous place, and the cheapest boat for sale is way beyond the gang's budget. Luckily, Ruel's old Gobbowl team is playing in the finals, and the prize money would be more than enough to buy a ship. But first, they have to defeat the other team, headed by the Sacrier Kriss Krass...

Tropes:

  • Big Game: Part 1 of 3...
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted; when Amalia tries to block Ruel's Gobball, she gets hit in the face hard enough to leave a black eye for the rest of the episode.
  • The Dreaded: Oma Island has a bad reputation in Bonta, as no-one wants to take Yugo and his group there, not even people who sympathize with the reason why he wants to go there.
  • Hyper-Awareness: Ruel is so experienced in Gobbowl he's able to correctly give an accurate description of what's happening in a game and who's going to score a goal... while standing outside the stadium, his back turned. Despite Eva's skepticism, he's proven right.
  • I Let You Win: When Amalia brags about beating her ladies-in-waiting in Gobbowl, Eva points out that they probably let her win. Given that Ruel easily gives her a black eye after she fails to catch the ball, Eva is probably right.
  • Large-Ham Announcer: As expected, the announcer of the Gobbowl match is incredibly loud and bombastic.
  • Let Me at Him!:
    • Eva has to physically hold back Amalia from a shopkeeper she gets mad at.
    • Meanwhile, Yugo and Dally have to hold back Ruel from attacking the boat seller.
    • Yugo and Amalia later hold Eva back from hurting Dally after she catches him playing with her bow.
  • Running Gag: Evangelyne, unamused, claiming that Gobbowl is "a sport for savages".
  • Scenery Censor: While Amalia tries out some clothes that Eva claims are "Too revealing", a set of coconuts are blocking the view from the neck down.
  • Serious Business: Gobbowl. As their creed states, "once a Gobbowler, always a Gobbowler". Though at least for Yugo's group, victory also means enough money to buy a boat to Oma.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: When issuing roles in the team, Ruel makes Amalia and Evangelyne into cheerleaders, with orders to "be girly."
  • Training from Hell: Part of the training Dally and Yugo undergo involves being chased by angry gobbowls as starter. Given how though and unpredictable the game can be, it's to be expected.
  • We Used to Be Friends: The leader of Ruel's former team is still incredibly sour and hostile towards Ruel, unlike his two colleagues, and refuses to have anything to do with him. Ultimately, he does confess through Ocular Gushers that he's happy to see him again.
