- Anger Born of Worry: Lorraine calls Gene upset that the job (i.e. killing Dougie) was supposed to be done yesterday. She hangs up after swearing, and the other assassin in the car says, "She's a worrier."
- Arc Number: We see a lot of prime numbers in this episode.
- The number 2 is sent after the message Argent
- 03 appears in the upper corner of Dougie's license plate. We also see Cooper's keychain for room 315 in the Great Northern Hotel.
- 5 appears with the discussion of the owed $50,000. Another possible appearance of 5 on Dougie's license plate, which reads DUGE LV or DUGE 55 with Roman numerals.
- Dougie works on the 7th floor at the Lucky Seven Insurance Company. When Phil pushes the elevator button, he says 7 up. The logo for Lucky Seven is a picture of 2 dice showing 2 and 5.

- Blood Is Squicker in Water: The morgue scene opens with the sound of a running faucet and then a closeup of blood in the sink.

- Calling Your Bathroom Breaks: Cooper stands in agony holding himself in the hallway until Rhonda lets him into the lady's room.
- Can't Tie His Tie: Janey-E ties Cooper's tie, when he leaves the house with it still around his neck untied.
- Car Bomb: A blinking device is attached to the underside of Dougie's car.
- Catchphrase: Cooper almost reprises his iconic sentiment, when he repeats "damn good joe" after Phil.

- Comical Nap Drool: The drugged-out mother lifts up her head when her son enters the house to reveal a long trail of drool.
- Continuity Nod:
- The sign for Rancho Rosa Estate has a red circle around the two R's, recalling the Double R Diner.
- The plaza containing the statue of the man with a gun also contains a statue of a white peak with attached red balloons recalling the balloons from Sonny Jim's birthday and the single red balloon seen beside the drugged-out mother in the previous episode.
- There is a glazed donut on the table in front of Frank during the office meeting.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Phil says, "Off in dreamland again, Dougie." This seems to suggest that Dougie may have been prone to odd behavior. However, Janey-E seems to think Dougie is having one of his episodes, suggesting Dougie may have had a more serious condition.
- Creator Thumbprint: A log cabin built of Lincoln Logs sits on Hawk's desk, recalling Lincoln Street in Blue Velvet.
- The Cuckoolander Was Right: Cooper seems to realize Tony is up to something involving the Littlefield settlement, despite not being able to understand what is going on around him or explain himself.
- Deliberately Monochrome: The security camera footage from the casino.
- Descent into Addiction: Steve is taking money from Becky's family and using cocaine to get through his job interviews, and he dragging Becky down with him.
- Donut Mess with a Cop: There is a box of donuts and half-eaten donuts on the table while Andy and Hawk look through the files.
- Drugs Are Good: After Becky sniffs cocaine, she finds Steve's joke funny and totally blisses out listening to the song on the radio as they drive with the wind blowing her hair.
- Establishing Character Music: Becky smiling to "I Love How You Love Me".
- Establishing Shot: The episode opens with a shot of the Las Vegas skyline and then a drive down the strip.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": The cook played by Marvin Rosand
is called Toad. While this was the name of the cook in the shooting script for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, fans of the original series may be confused as a regular of the Double R diner played by Kevin Young was also called Toad. - Evil Debt Collector: The loan sharks threaten the Jones family.
- False Friend: Tony tells Cooper he owes him for covering when Dougie did not come into work but talks loudly in front of everyone about Dougie being back from Bendersville.
- Fish out of Temporal Water: Cooper is handed coffee in a paper cup with a Solo traveler lid, which is now ubiquitous but was less common before the rise of Starbucks in the 90's. Cooper seems to have difficulty finding the hole in the lid, hilariously mouthing the lid until he is able to gulp down his coffee. When he sees a couple drinking from mugs, Cooper takes a break from gulping from his paper cup to look at them longingly and says "coffee".
- Flashback: Evil Cooper looks into his mirror in his prison cell, and there is a cut to the scene of Bob and the Cooper doppelgänger laughing hysterically in the Black Lodge followed by the scene of a Bob-possessed Cooper duplicate banging his head into the mirror at the Great Northern Hotel in Episode 22 of Season 2, "Beyond Life and Death".
- The Fool: Cooper continues to run into others who help him through his day, even though he is still unable to find a toilet on his own.
- Get Out!: Janey-E repeatedly yells at Cooper to get out of the car, but she still has to open the car door for him and shove him out of the car.
- Henpecked Husband: Frank patiently listens to his wife's concerns about a leaky pipe, her father's car, and Dwight's diarrhea.
- High Hopes, Zero Talent: Steve rushes into Mike Nelson's messy office, only to be told that his resume is one of the worse Mike has ever seen and Steve's completion of the form was "worse than sloppy".
- Homage: The statue which entrances Cooper resembles Jimmy Stewart in The FBI Story.
- In Memoriam: This episode was in memory of Marvin Rosand.
- Insurance Fraud: Bushnell Mullins seems surprised that Tony thinks the Littlefield case is legit, as he thought it was ruled arson. Mullins gives Cooper a stack of case files to review.
- Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Mike Nelson seems unnecessarily harsh and goes out of his way to let Steve know his job application was a mess, but Steve later loses the audience's empathy.
- Lame Pun Reaction: After the detectives just stare at Constance when she gives them the headline, she cracks her knuckles and says she is still doing standup on the weekends.
- Like Father, Like Son: Shelly knows what it is like to get involved with someone with a fancy car and drug problem, but does not know how to help her daughter.
- Living Lie Detector: Cooper is able to detect lies as a shimmering green light.
- Loan Shark: Janey-E makes plans to pay off Dougie's $50,000 debt.
- Lost Wedding Ring: Constance finds a gold ring in the body inscribed "To Dougie, with love, Janey-E".
- Made of Bologna: The headless body had a solid red stump between the shoulders with no vertebrae, trachea, bleeding, or other visible tissues that would be expected in a severed neck.
- Make an Example of Them: Rodney Mitchum beats up the casino supervisor in front of the other employees, including Pit Boss Warrick, who will be the new supervisor.
- Manly Men Can Hunt: Mike Nelson has 2 deer heads and a gun mounted on the walls of his office.
- The Mirror Shows Your True Self: When the Bob-possessed Cooper duplicate looks in the mirror, his mouth briefly changes to BOB's Slasher Smile, prompting him to say "You're still with me. That's good."
- Must Have Caffeine: Cooper manages to mutter the word "coffee" when he sees Phil's tray of drinks. Cooper clearly wants the coffee so much, that Phil gives him Frank's coffee.
- Newspaper Backstory: Norma is sitting next to a framed newspaper article titled "Double R Diner wins award for best local takeout meal".
- Not Himself: Janey-E seems to realize there is something different about her husband, and that he is "acting weird as shit." However, she just goes along with it instead of getting him medical help.
- Off with His Head!: The detectives stand next to the headless body as they get an update from Constance Talbot.Constance Talbot: Cause of death; took me a while, but I think someone cut this man's head off.
- Orgasmically Delicious: Cooper really enjoys his cup of coffee in the elevator.
- Parental Neglect: A drugged-out mother sleeps as her son examines a car bomb.
- Posthumous Credit: Marvin Rosand, who died on September 21, 2015, appeared in this episode.
- Professional Killer: Gene and another assassin continue to watch the house with Dougie's car parked in the driveway.
- Quest for Identity: Cooper repeats the words "agent" and "case files" seeming to know these have something to do with his past life. He also seems drawn to the statue of a lawman with a gun.
- Retired Badass: Dougie's boss, Bushnell Mullins, used to be a boxer, who went by "Battling" Bud and was billed as "tougher than the rest". Mr. Mullins proudly displays a poster advertising one of his fights in his office.
- Rhyming List: Bradley and Rodney arrive with Sandie, Mandie, and Candie.
- Shout-Out: Dr. Amp parodies a popular PSA when he opens his broadcast with "It's 7 pm. Do you know where your freedom is?"
- Silver Has Mystic Powers:
- Lorraine sends the message ARGENT, followed by the number 2.
- A close-up on Dougie's license plate reminds us that Nevada is the Silver State.
- We return to the Silver Mustang Casino.
- Single Tear: Cooper has a tear running down his face as he watches Sonny Jim look sad in the car.
- Source Music: "I Love How You Love Me" by the Paris Sisters plays on the car radio.
- Stranger in a Familiar Land: Cooper is still unable to function in the world.
- Tipis and Totem Poles: Hawk has a totem pole lamp in his office, but this may be justified as Hawk is of the Nez Perce tribe, who do carve and display totem poles.
- Toilet Humour: Cooper still needs to be led into the bathroom when he needs to urinate, and finds great relief when he finds the toilet.
- Trapped by Gambling Debts: Janey-E hopes they will be clear and free once they pay off the debt with the cash windfall.
- Trauma-Induced Amnesia: Cooper still can not recall who he is or activities of daily living.
- Tuckerization:
- The Rancho Rosa Estate is named after the production company for this series.
- Bushnell Mullins, Dougie's boss, is likely a Shout-Out to the artist, Bushnell Keeler, who was a mentor and subject of a short film for David Lynch.
- Twin Desynch: Tony notices that Cooper is thinner and has shorter hair than Dougie and accuses him of drinking in a sweat lodge and getting a haircut.
- Uncomfortable Elevator Moment:
- Cooper does not turn around to face the door after getting on the elevator, as Phil taps his fingers on his tray of coffee and a woman looks at her cell phone. They then both stare at Cooper uncomfortably when he moans with pleasure while drinking from a coffee Phil reluctantly gives him.
- Cooper keeps his back turned to the door as he rides the elevator down. He then stands in front of the door as everyone wants to exit the elevator at 5:30 pm.
- Vanity License Plate: Dougie's car has a plate reading "DUGE LV".
- Wardrobe Flaw of Characterization: Cooper is wearing a jacket which is too big for him, as it belonged to the heavier Dougie, and fits Cooper about as well as Dougie's life fits Cooper.
- Would Hit a Girl: Lorraine has a clear bruise on her left jaw when she calls Gene.
- You Have Failed Me: Rodney Mitchum beats the casino supervisor, believing he must have colluded with Cooper to win the jackpots.
- Zeerust: Lorraine uses an iconic blue Blackberry 6210, which was considered sleek technology when introduced in 2003.
