Recap / Total Drama: "Moon Madness"

Go To

The campers are sent out during the Blue Harvest moon, which switches the personalities of the animals. The Malevolent One takes advantage of the moon granting him control of Mike's body to cause chaos.

Tropes:

  • Baby Talk: While faking a friendly demeanor opposite of her usual self, Heather uses baby talk while cuddling an alligator, which due to the Blue Harvest Moon is genuinely friendly. Her teammates are horrified by the "poochie-poochie-poo"-ing.
  • Batman Gambit: Heather plays the exact opposite of herself to get Alejandro's attention, and makes it work.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Gwen saves Courtney from a moon-influenced deer.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Mal reveals this trait.
  • Flipping the Bird: Courtney throws the beaver that attacks Scott into the ravine. As it falls out of view and opens a parachute, it flips her off with both paws.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: All of the docile animals are turned into killers, and all killer animals are made docile by the Blue Harvest Moon.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Chris, from the control tent, signs off the show for the commercial break, the Slender Man can be seen on the far left monitor behind him.
  • Hanging by the Fingers: The Heroic Hamsters try to cross the chasm by swinging from a rope. They bump into a tree on the other side, which knocks them back far enough that they go over the edge. Sierra is the one who grabs hold of the edge, with Cameron stuck in a basket on her back and Zoey and Mal still hanging from the rope that's now held up by Sierra's clenched teeth. One by one, the four of them climb back up onto solid ground.
  • Hyde Plays Jekyll: Mal plays Mike well enough that Cameron and Zoey don't properly figure him out until much later.
  • Killer Rabbit: Literal examples appear in this episode, and proceed to tackle Scott to the ground.
  • Nice Day, Deadly Night: The rare Blue Harvest Moon makes every animal in the forest act opposite of their normal selves. So while the lone alligator is no longer a problem, a gang of bunnies is. The Heroic Hamsters, who lost the previous challenge, are put at greater risk as they're made to wear sausage belts and bacon hats.
  • Plot Hole: The Blue Harvest Moon triggers Mal, despite being stated to only effect animals.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Sierra engages three moon-influenced hostile birds in a rapid-fire fist fight encased in a big ring of violence.
  • Reality Warper: The Blue Harvest Moon.
  • Ship Sinking: Gwen and Duncan break up in this episode.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stalker with a Crush: A weird version, as being separated from Cody for so long has caused Sierra to keep referring to Cameron as Cody.
  • Twitchy Eye: Duncan assures the audience that he's not jealous about Courtney's interest in Scott. His twitching eye says otherwise.
  • Two-Faced Aside: Gwen saves Courtney from a ferocious deer in the nick of time. Courtney expresses surprise, which Gwen counters by saying that Courtney would've done the same in the reverse scenario. Courtney agrees on the spot, but she reveals in the confessional that she would've let Gwen become deer food without hesitation.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: The Blue Harvest Moon reverses the behaviors of the island's fauna, with carnivores becoming friendly and herbivores deadly. With the moon's effect as her guise, Heather pretends to have become a saccharinely happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine. Everyone on the Villainous Vultures is horrified, Alejandro in particular, and they're glad when she goes back to her normal bitch self.
  • Wham Episode: Cameron and Zoey start to notice Mal's actions, Mal reveals the ability to act as Mike, play Cameron perfectly, Gwen and Duncan break up, and Cameron switches teams.
