Tropes

  • Big "NO!": Dakota, after she's been made an intern.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Sam says Sha-Bam to Lightning after he falls into the icy water.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Very brief. Mike says "Da" in Svetlana's Russian accented voice.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The fire-breathing mutant beetle from the junk pile later comes back to the aid of the Toxic Rats, as a means to thanking Dawn from reuniting it with its child.
  • Continuity Nod: After Dakota returns to the island, Chris says he hates it when eliminated contestants get clingy, likely referring to Ezekiel and Sierra attempting to stay in the game after both of their eliminations in Total Drama World Tour and likely Courtney threatening legal action to get back onto the show in Total Drama Action after she was eliminated in Total Drama Island and failed to qualify for Total Drama Action.
  • Depending Upon the Undependable: Scott declares himself the captain while the snow fort challenge is on. He sends Lightning and Sam out to capture the enemy's flag. Sam points out that he's the poorest choice for a task that requires running, but is ignored. Scott's strategy is to sabotage his own team, so Sam seems to be selected on purpose, but Lightning is the best athlete on the team. It's possible but not made explicit that Scott's aim is to worsen the already strained teamwork between the two, in which case his plan works.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Anne Maria, Zoey, and Brick are sent out to capture the Toxic Rats' flag. Svetlana gets there before them due to her gymnastic skills, but her shirt rips open upon landing and Vito takes her place. He confidently claims the flag and when the other three Mutant Maggots arrive, Anne Maria can't keep her eyes off him, forgetting about the mission completely.
  • Dinner Deformation: When Brick and Jo have a competition who can eat breakfast the fastest, Brick swallows his spoon. It becomes visibly lodged in his throat, prompting Jo to punch him to get him to cough it out.
  • Foreshadowing: The first challenge has Chef throwing blocks of ice off of Mount Looming Tragedy, the second part of the challenge takes places on a frozen-over lake.
  • Frame-Up: B becomes the target of Scott's Team Killer strategy. Scott sabotages his ice mirror to melt down the Toxic Rats' own snow fort and blames it on B. Because it's a fragile frame-up, he continues with other stories to get the required votes against B. He tells Sam that someone who doesn't talk must have something to hide, Dawn that B hates nature, and Lightning that B calls him "Fizzle" behind his back. B is voted out that evening, but his name gets cleared by the time of the finale.
  • Freudian Slip: In the heat of the moment, Mike refers to Svetlana as one of his personalities before "correcting" himself with impression.
  • Harmless Freezing: Both Sam and Lightning wind up becoming encased in ice after falling into the icy water at different points, but are shown none the worse for wear.
  • Human Shield: Brick and Zoey use Anne-Maria's rock hard hair in order to cross no man's land to get to the other team.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: B covers his eyes when he sees Mike as Vito, Scott, and Brick fighting for the flag.
  • Know When to Fold Them: Brick willingly allows Jo to become team captain after she beats him in thumb wrestling.
  • Not-So-Innocent Whistle: Scott sabotages his own team by re-angling B's ice mirror to shine on an ice block, which reflects the solar beam back to the fort of the Toxic Rats. Scott proceeds to blame B for the defeat and even though B knows Scott had something to do with it, he can only glare daggers at him. Scott taunts him by whistling in mock innocence.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The mutant fire-breathing beetle.
  • The Reveal: The show hadn't exactly been trying to hide it much beforehand, but this episode has Mike officially confirm that he has multiple personality disorder.
  • Secret Diary: Scott claims that he read B's diary and that B refers to Lightning as Fizzle. This is all part of his attempt to get B voted off and it's unknown if B even has a diary.
  • Self-Deprecation: When told to go across no man's land in the second part of the challenge, Sam admits that he isn't very athletic.
Sam: (sarcastically) "Great, more running."
  • Shout-Out: Dakota's full name is revealed as Dakota Milton, a parody of Paris Hilton.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Where the second part of the challenge takes place.
  • Speak in Unison: The teams are ordered to pick a captain for the snow fort challenge and without discussing anything, both Jo and Brick assume the mantle. This causes them both to say, "As team captain, I say we-" before they realize they have a conflict, which they solve by thumb-wrestling over it.
  • Spit Take: Sam only needs to take one bite of gruel to know it's not for him. He spits it out in shock over the foul taste, right into Scott's face. Scott throws his bowl back in revenge.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Mike is less than pleased when it's revealed that Vito is now active.
Mike: "Things just went from tough, to suck-tacular."
  • Titled After the Song: The title of the episode comes from the song by Vanilla Ice.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Dawn surmises that Scott is the way he is because he wasn't held enough as a child. In the confessional, Scott's curled up and his eyes are twitching as he concludes that Dawn with her creepy powers has become a priority elimination.
  • Twitchy Eye: Scott is severely disturbed by Dawn's deduction that he wasn't held enough as a child. He goes into a Troubled Fetal Position with lots of eye twitching.
  • The Unreveal: After getting voted off B tries to warn his fellow teammates about Scott, but Chris catapults him off the island before he can do so.
