One morning, Sir Topham Hatt comes to the Arlesburgh/Harwick Branchine with a very important message for Daisy. He tells her that he wants her at her very best, as tomorrow, she will be carrying some very special passengers. Daisy is excited upon hearing this, and asks him who they are. He tells her that they are a group of entertainers, and he wants her to collect them from Knapford Station, bring them to Harwick, and wait while they put on a show. Daisy is excited to be carrying entertainers, and thanks Sir Topham Hatt as she leaves her shed.

Daisy is so excited, she can't wait to tell the other engines about her special job. She meets up with Thomas at the ballast hopper, and asks him to guess what she's going to do tomorrow. After Thomas gives several incorrect guesses, Daisy tells him she's picking up a group of entertainers and taking them to Harwick to put on a show. Thomas, Annie, and Clarabel are all impressed upon hearing this. Daisy then boast about how special the show will be, and how Sir Topham Hatt requested her to convy them to their destination, as only she, as a highly sprung railcar, can give them the smooth and bump-free ride they require. Thomas tells Daisy that her job does sound exciting, but he has some important jobs of his own to do. Before he can say what they are, Daisy rolls away, which Clarabel finds rude.

As Daisy drops off some of her passengers, when Ryan catches up to her. She asks him to guess what she's going to be doing tomorrow, but before he can ask her what it is, she tells him she's taking some travelling players to Harwick to put on a special show. Ryan is impressed upon hearing this, but Daisy soon boasts about how Sir Topham Hatt chose her for the job, as the performers preferred to be taken by diesel railcar, as dirty, old steam engines are no good for their delicate sensibilities. Ryan, being a steam engine himself, merely takes what Daisy said about steam engines lightly, wishes her good luck, and tells her that his passengers don't seem to mind being pulled by a steam engine. As it turns out, Ryan is pulling some livestock wagons, and all of his passengers are sheep.

Next, Daisy meets up with Duck and Oliver at Knapford Station. She boasts about how her breanchine is going up market, as tomorrow, she will be carrying a troupe of travelling players. She then begins to let her new job go to her head, as she boasts about how the performers will be putting on a sonnet lumiere as a special treat for all the tourists. As Daisy leaves, Duck tells her it sounds very good, then admits to Oliver that he had no idea what she was talking about. Oliver admits to him that he didn't have any idea, either.

Next, Daisy boasts about her special job to a Bull near her line, and asks him if she agrees. The Bull merely moos at her. The passengers are not happy about this, and Daisy sets off.

That night, Daisy is so excited about her special job, she can hardly sleep. She starts thinking about circus performers, including dancers and acrobats. The following morning, she is tired, but still very excited, and sets off to do her job.

At a station, several passengers, including a dog, are waiting for Daisy to arrive. Daisy pulls in, remembering Sir Topham Hatt's instruction to be at her best. Unfortunately, when she hears the dog barking, she refuses to let the passengers on, not wanting to get muddy paw prints on her upholstry. She then closes her door and rolls away, much to the disappointment of the passengers.

At the next station, Daisy sees some passengers eating ice cream. Not wanting ice cream on her seats, Daisy refuses to pick those passengers up as well, and rolls right past them, much to their disappointment.

At Bluff's Cove station, Daisy sees some passengers that have just come from the beach. As with the other two sets of passengers, she refuses to pick them up as well, and rolls right past them, this time not wanting sand in her seats. As with the other two sets of passengers, this set of passengers is disappointed as well.

Daisy arrives at Knapford Station, spic and span, and without a grain of sand in her seats or a sticky handprint on any of her windows. As she waits for her special passengers, she sees Stafford bring in a luggage wagon. Daisy is disgusted by this, and says that she could never pull anything like it. It is at this moment that Daisy's special passengers, a man and a lady looking none too fancy, arrive. Daisy asks them if they could move on, as she's waiting for some very special passengers, in the form of a troupe of entertainers. The lady tells her that they are entertainers, much to her shock. She asks the passengers if they really are the entertainers, and the man tells her they are as he spins around and removes his hat, revealing a flower pot underneath. They get onboard Daisy, who is disappointed that her passengers were not as fancy as she expected. Stafford then pushes the luggage wagon up to Daisy, who refuses to pull it, saying that she's supposed to be at her best, and pulling it will be bad for her swerves. She leaves just before a workman can couple her up to it. He tries to stop her, as does Stafford, who tries chasing after her. Unfortunately, Daisy is now far ahead of Stafford, who decides to leave the luggage wagon behind, knowing his battery won't make it to Harwick.

As Daisy goes back to Harwick, she is disappointed that her passengers werent' as special as she thought they would be. On her way back, she passes by the three sets of passengers she refused to pick up earlier, and once again, refuses to pick any of them up, much to their disappointment.

When Daisy arrives at Harwick, her special passengers are now disappointed as they get off her. The Lady asks the Stationmaster where all the children are, and the Man asks what the point of doing a children's show is without children to see it. Daisy is shocked upon hearing this, and the Man asks where the rest of their luggage is. Fortunately, the Lady tells him that she kept the briefcase with the puppets in it close at hand. Daisy is even more shocked upon hearing that her special performers were going to put on a puppet show. The Man tells her it is, but asks how they can do it without their puppet stand. It is at this point that Daisy realizes that she let her imagination get the better of her. She boasted to all her friends about the special show without realizing it might be a puppet show for children. Just then, Bertie pulls in, carrying all of the passengers Daisy refused to pick up, as well as Sir Topham Hatt, who is not happy with her at all. He had to call in a special bus service after she refused to pick the children up. He then tells her he's at least glad they're here now, and it's time to start the show. Daisy apologizes, and tells him that she didn't bring the luggage wagon with the puppet stand in it, either. Sir Topham Hatt is shocked upon hearing this, and tells Daisy he doesn't know what to do now. Daisy looks over at all the children, then at the performers. She feels bad that she let everyone down, and realizes that the children will be very disappointed if she doesn't do something. She then suddenly has an idea.

The puppet show begins, with Daisy being used as a substitute for the puppet stand. In the puppet show, a man asks a lady named Judy to hold some sausages for him. Judy refuses to hold the sausages for the man, and acts just as high-sprung as Daisy did. The Children and Sir Topham Hatt all enjoy the show, and even though Daisy knows that the Man and Lady are talking about her, she merely decides to laugh it off.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Daisy vows to work hard more often, which isn't the case in this episode.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Dandy: Daisy. She took the Fat Controller's instruction to look her best too seriously that she refuses to stop for passengers with dogs, passengers eating ice cream, and passengers who came from the beach, thinking she will respectively get muddy paws on her upholstry and get her seats filled with ice cream and sand. She also refuses to pulling the parcel wagon.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Daisy got so caught up in what her special performers might possibly be doing, that she didn't expect them to be putting on a puppet show. She also didn't think that the luggage wagon that Stafford brought in would have the puppet stand in it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Towards the end of the episode, Sir Topham Hatt scolds Daisy for refusing to pick up her passengers and having Bertie do her work for her.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Daisy's reaction when she realizes that the luggage wagon she refused to pick up contained a puppet stand for the show.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Daisy's response to all of Thomas' guesses over her special job.
  • Rule of Three: Twice in this episode, Daisy refuses to pick up three sets of passengers, each for different reasons. First, she refuses to pick up the set with the dog, as she doesn't want muddy paw prints on her upholstry. Then, she refuses to pick up the set eating ice cream because she doesn't want ice cream on her seats. Lastly, she refuses to pick up the set from the beach, as she doesn't want sand in her seats. As a result, Bertie has to pick them up for her.
  • Shout-Out: The episode's title is most likely a reference to Mr. Punch's catchphrase, "That's the way to do it!". The male entertainer also says this line at the end of the episode.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Daisy feels very special about her job and brags about it to the other engines, even to a bull.
  • Take That!: When Daisy wants Thomas to guess what her special job is, one of the things Thomas asks her is if she's going to Misty Island. Upon hearing this, Daisy tells him, "No!".
