This episode provides the example of:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The Vendawish sketch has a man asking to be taller. Vendawish complies by stretching out his neck.
  • Coincidental Dodge: When Miss Piggy tells Big Bird that she's the show's singing star, Big Bird finds it funny and laughs. An angry Piggy tries to karate chop him, but Big Bird doubles over when she swings, and she falls off the stairway's balcony.
  • Crossover: This episode of The Muppet Show features Big Bird from Sesame Street.
  • Dartboard of Hate: Camilla has one with Colonel Sanders's picture on it.
  • Hurricane of Puns: During Leslie Uggams and Lew Zealand's number.
Leslie Uggams: Listen, Lew. What does it take to become a great boomerang-fish thrower?
Lew Zealand: Well, you gotta have sole. And if you can't get sole, use halibut.
Leslie Uggams: I should have guessed.
Lew Zealand: But in that case, I use a catcher's mitt.
Leslie Uggams: Why? No, no, don't tell me. Let me guess. Just for the halibut?
Lew Zealand: See? You're catching on.
Leslie Uggams: Listen, how did you acquire this talent? Was it an accident?
Lew Zealand: No, it was on porpoise.
Leslie Uggams: I give him the straight lines, and he gives me the fish lines.
  • Kiss of Life: Invoked. When Gonzo tells Kermit that he's so excited for his date with Camilla that he might faint, Kermit replies that she might have to give him mouth-to-mouth (or rather, mouth-to-beak) resuscitation. Gonzo, liking the idea, promptly starts practicing his fainting. Unfortunately, he gets up and asks her how he did before she can do anything.
  • Re-Cut: "Mad About the Frog" was only shown in Europe only. It was never aired in North America until it was rerun on Nickelodeon in the 90's.
  • Shout-Out: Gonzo says that the chorus of his song about Camilla is "very Cole Porter-y". One of the lines in said chorus is "You're prettier by far than Godzilla".
  • Would Hurt a Child: Miss Piggy, if you consider Big Bird to be a child (or at least child-like), although she probably wasn't aware of it at the time. Fortunately, she only hurts herself.

[Chickens surround Statler and Waldorf]
Waldorf: Have we ever said that this show is for the birds?
Statler: Yes, and we'll keep saying it until it gets a laugh.
