Mako Tanida (No. 83) provides examples of:

  • Finger in the Mail: Of a variety. Reddington send Mako Tanida’s severed head in the mail as a gift.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Ressler is, initially, prepared to cross lines in order to avenge Audrey, but he ultimately doesn’t.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The episode is chock full of them:
    • Mako Tanida spends the episode trying to avenge his brother, Aiko, who was murdered by one of the people responsible for incarcerating him.
    • Mako’s rampage results in the death of Audrey Bidwell, leading to Ressler’s Rampage against Tanida.
  • Sadistic Choice: Mako Tanida gives his victims a choice between performing seppuku (disembowling themselves) or he'll kill them and their families.
  • Shown Their Work: The episode correctly shows the existence of Abashiri Prison in Abashiri, Hokkaido. It's still in use as an active prison sitenote . At the same time, it also depicts the correct way of showing a Japanese address in English. Also, the abbreviation NPA, which stands for the National Police Agency in English.
