Darwin: This is a new low.
Gumball: Meh. Feels like a very familiar low.

Darwin and Gumball help their dad lose weight, and end up turning him into an overly-muscled hunk with a narcissistic streak.

Tropes

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Once Richard becomes healthy and muscular he becomes obnoxiously vain, posing and taking selfies with "fans" at every opportunity, even obstructing rescue efforts to pose in front of a crowd.
  • Bait-and-Switch: For once, Darwin actually is thinking what Gumball is thinking.
  • Comically Missing the Point: How Richard goes about dieting. He reads that using tiny plates helps you eat less, but doesn't get that he's only supposed to eat one tiny plate per meal. Along with that, he tries multiple single-food diets at the same time which makes him eat even more than he usually does and orders a pizza as a reward for dieting.
  • Diet Episode: For Richard.
  • *Drool* Hello: Richard drools on Darwin during a Ceiling Cling which freaks him out. He calms down upon realizing it's just saliva, before freaking out even harder because of how gross that is.
  • Forgetful Jones: Richard overhears Gumball and Darwin planning a more effective diet but they know to wait a few seconds so he'll forget everything.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The diet works, but Richard becomes extremely narcissistic for it.
  • Left the Background Music On: Gumball and Darwin initially think that the montage song is stuck in their heads, but it turns out Richard is still montaging.
  • Micro Dieting: Subverted when Richard, attempting to diet, says he read that he'll eat less if he uses tiny plates. He sits down to dinner with a single lettuce leaf on a tiny plate...only to reveal that the entire dinner table is covered in tiny plates holding all sorts of food.
  • Motivation on a Stick: Darwin and Gumball get Richard to lose the extra weight he gains by forcing him to exercise to reach his junk food. Then they switch the junk food for healthy food, and he starts to get thinner than he was before.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Richard's misguided attempt at dieting makes him put on weight giving him thunderous footsteps and the successful diet regimen Gumball and Darwin put him on gives him a toned muscular physique.
  • Training Montage: Parodied. Gumball and Darwin deliberately use this trope to speed up Richard's exercising. It ends up going too far.
