Gumball and Darwin try to help Juke (the humanoid boy with a boombox for a head) speak properly, but Gumball and Darwin get too caught up in arguing over how Juke should be treated.

Tropes:

  • Africa Is a Country: Juke specifues that Boomboxembourg is a continent after mistaking Juke for trying to celebrate Grobblefest.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: A non-fatal variant in that everyone but Principal Brown (even Mr. Small) celebrates when told that Ms. Simian is retiring.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Darwin and Gumball somehow get inside the book Richard was carrying to his side when they were celebrating Ms. Simian's alleged retirement.
Richard: "Chapter one. Gumball and Darwin ran through the living room...screaming?"
  • Big "NO!": Alan gets stuck to Principal Brown's head without Brown noticing it. Once he notices Brown is head to the bathroom, his laughing quickly turns into a Rapid-Fire "No!" then a Big "NO!".
  • Blatant Lies: Mr. Small joins the children in celebrating when Gumball and Darwin erroneously announce that Miss Simian is retiring. When Miss Simian catches him with obvious party items, he makes a halfhearted attempt to claim he was sure there'd been a fire drill.
  • Bowdlerise: The Arabic Cartoon Network edited the beginning where Gumball and Darwin improvise dialogue between Principal Brown and Miss Simian to remove Miss Simian kissing Principal Brown (as displays of affection like that are considered taboo in Arabic countries). Curiously, in the Arabic Cartoon Network dub, Juke's line after he gets his voice back thanking Gumball and Darwin for hitting his switch and how he's been stuck like that for years was muted.
  • The Cat Came Back: Darwin and Gumball are running around screaming and keep appearing in everything Richard is watching on TV. Then they appear in the book he had to his side before running right in front of him.
  • Creator Cameo: One of the videos Darwin and Gumball show to each other features the series director, Mic Graves.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Juke.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: Principal Brown assures Ms. Simian that she isn't bald, "it's just that gravity has turned your hair... into a beard".
  • Eskimos Aren't Real: Gumball thinks that Mt. Everest, the Atlantic Ocean, and Thursday are just things made up by Darwin.
  • Language Equals Thought: What (seems to be) Juke's home country has over 500 different words for disco, but discovered fire in 1992.
  • Mistaken Nationality: Darwin and Gumball think Juke is trying to have a "Grobblefest" coming of age ritual because he's from a place called "Boomboxembourg". It turns out Boomboxembourg is a continent with several different countries, and Juke isn't from one that celebrates Groblefest—he's never even heard of it.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Darwin and Gumball dub over Leslie jumping rope to make it seem like a trailer for some inspirational sports movie.
  • My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: Gumball runs what Juke types through machine translation—through several languages because there was no direct translation—producing the message "the reign of the ape is no more", which they assume to mean Ms. Simian is retiring.
  • Narrative Profanity Filter: Gumball mutters, "Ah, curse word," when Miss Simian tells the class that she's not retiring.
  • Political Overcorrectness: Darwin objects to calling Juke a "boom-box head" (despite him not seeming to care), and insists Gumball use the term "bi-speakered, parallelepipedic electrical leisure appliance".
Gumball: You make it sound like a disease.
  • Real Men Can Hunt: Part of the Groblefest tradition is hunting and eating an animal "to gain its strength". Darwin and Gumball try to substitute a squirrel for Juke to kill, but when even that proves to be too difficult, they just buy some hamburgers and Gumball points out how strong cows are.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Darwin gives two of these to Gumball. The first being on how he's a bad friend for the way he was treating Juke, and another on how he only ever helps people to overcompensate for his guilt. During the Grobblefight, Gumball throws one at Darwin, calling him out for being a Holier Than Thou Soapbox Sadie.
Gumball: Oh, I get it alright! You're a finger-pointer, and now that I'm doing the right thing, you can't point your pointy little flipper at me anymore, and that's why you're so butthurt! But the truth is, I'm actually doing something, and you're not helping at all!
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: A switch on Juke's head is flipped, letting him speak normally and letting everyone know that's what he was trying to talk about, but the switch is knocked back into its previous position before anyone pays enough attention to notice.
  • Special Guest: Juke's "noise mode" is provided by Beatboxing Hobbit, credited with "Beatboxing provided by Hobbit" in the closing credits.
  • Timmy in a Well: Said by Gumball as a sarcastic guess as to what Juke was trying to say.
  • Translation by Volume: Darwin criticizes Gumball for not trying to communicate with Juke in a language he understands, then immediately tries to ask him the same question more loudly.
  • Two-Teacher School: Lampshaded. When Gumball tells everyone Miss Simian is retiring, they all think they don't have to go to school anymore, since she seems to teach literally every class there, even though Miss Simian tells them that they would still have to go to school even if she did retire.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The students get mad at Darwin and Gumball for making them believe that Miss Simian is retiring.
