Recap / The A Team S 4 E 11 The Doctor Is Out

Go To

In the middle of a therapy session, Murdock witnesses Dr. Richter being kidnapped by a pair of armed men. The team nails down the likely culprit as a Colonel Mack Stoddard, who Richter had analyzed and who is currently facing an investigation.

The episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Dartboard of Hate: While they're in Fullbright's office getting information on Colonel Stoddard, Murdock notices a picture of Hannibal's face hanging on the wall, impaled by a few darts.
  • Distressed Dude: Murdock's psychiatrist Dr. Richter is kidnapped by a group of armed men. He spends most of the episode tied to something, locked in a cage, or otherwise in captivity.
  • The Door Slams You: When the team breaks out of captivity in Curuguay, one of them smacks a guard with the door.
  • Double Reverse Quadruple Agent: The girl of the episode first tells Hannibal she's Richter's daughter, then tells the team she's a reporter. She also alleges she's Stoddard's daughter, a CIA agent, and the daughter of Cuaruguay's president. Not even the team—Face himself is stunned by how many personalities she's flipped between—can figure out for sure when—if at all—she's telling the truth.
    • What's interesting is how she has just enough information on each person she's impersonating to bluff her way into everyone else's trust, including Stoddard. It's implied she's a female version of Face, but who she's working for is never revealed The fact that she helps stop Stoddard implies she's one of the good guys.
  • General Ripper: More of a Colonel, but Stoddard is intent on overthrowing Curuguay's government without U.S. sanction.
  • Hypnotize the Captive: When Murdock comes to report Richter's kidnapping, Face is "auditioning" a girl for a movie, Rock N' Roll Vampire and getting her to rehearse a scene where the vampire charms her and she begs him to bite her.
  • It's Personal: Murdock wants the team to rescue Richter because he's one of the few psychiatrists that Murdock genuinely likes.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Stoddard hangs Dr. Richter near water where a crocodile lurks in an attempt to get him to change a report he wrote on him.
  • Trojan Prisoner: To get the information they need on Stoddard, Murdock poses as a soldier who has caught Face and is bringing him in for the reward money. This allows the two to get into the office and near the computers without suspicion.
