Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 4 E 6 Journey To The Center Of Mikeys Mind

Go To

When the Neutrinos invade Mikey's mind, the other turtles have to travel through his subconscious to get rid of Neutrinos.

  • Adaptation Species Change: The Neutrinos used to be a race from Dimension X, but here, they are just another alien race.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In previous cartoon and comics, the Neutrinos were allies. Here they are villains.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: The embodiments of Mikey's various personality traits lay down an impromptu rap, much to the others' consternation.
    Raph: This is excruciating.
  • Bad Guy Bar: The turtles go to one in order to meet Fugitoid's contact.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Casey tries waking Mikey up with a slice of pizza and when he doesn't react, Casey says it defies the laws of physics.
  • Big Fun: The obese Mikey who appears in his subconscious represents Mikey's gluttony. It's safe to say this would be how the real Mikey would look and be like if his love of pizza and eating in general ever caught up to him.
  • Breath Weapon: Belebome uses his foul breath to stun the Turtles. At the end of the episode, Mikey returns the favour.
  • Continuity Nod: There's definitely a lot of it when the turtles enter Mikey's mind, such as a scene of the turtles role playing in Mazes and Mutants and returning to April's farm house.
  • Fantastic Racism: The turtles and Honeycutt have to enter a bar where humans aren't allowed to enter, leaving April and Casey behind.
Casey: Oh, this is alien racism!
  • Fat Bastard: The alien who was supposed to give Honeycutt information about the Triceratons in exchange for Honeycutt's life savings decides to back out of the deal for more money. Also, he's apparently working for Dregg.
  • In Name Only: The Neutrinos in this episode bare absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to their previous incarnations.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: The story about saving Mikey from Neutrinos by going into his mind and defeat it. The title of the story even called Journey To the Center of Mikey's Mind.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Mikey calls Belebome "Belly Bomb," the name of the Archie character he's based on.
  • Manchild: It's been rather obvious since the show started, but Donnie finally confirms Mikey is this when they find Mikey's inner self who basically "never matured past 6".
  • Out of Focus: Remove Casey from this episode and nothing would change.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Zaphod's Cantina.
    • The Neutrinos bear a strong resemblance to The Mindless Ones from Doctor Strange.
    • At one point while exploring Mikey's mind, the other three boys end up in a room with a black and white floor, red curtains, and a backwards speaking figment of Mikey. Clearly a reference to the Red Room scenes from Twin Peaks.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: During the climax, the turtles (and the episode as a whole) let Inner-Mikey know he already has an advantage against the Neutrinos: he's highly imaginative. His brothers may have previously looked down on him in the past, but they know the Neurtrinos don't stand a chance against Mikey's boundless imagination.
