Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 3 E 22 The Creeping Doom

Go To

After an accident, Donnie starts losing his intelligence. Meanwhile the Creep returns, smarter and more dangerous than ever.

  • Alien Blood: The Creep "bleeds" a whitish fluid that is probably tree sap.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Raph tells the Creep to give him his best shot.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Donnie comes in at the last moment to kill Creepweed with weedkiller-based anti-mutagen.
  • Came Back Strong: After he reforms, the Creep absorbs Donnie's formula and becomes much smarter than before.
  • Continuity Nod: Donnie has a "trophy" shelf in his lab consisting of a Kraang mind control device, a Foot Bot head, a Kraang Droid head, Bernie's book that kept the Dream Beaver contained, one of Slash's spikes, Snakeweed's claw and Creep's bottle. The last two become plot points.
    • Mikey mentions the mutant wasps from season 1.
    • Donnie is experimenting on the brain worm Leo and Mikey snuck out of Stockman's lab in the previous episode.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Splinter vs. The Creep. The Creep can't even touch Splinter and is soundly beaten in less than ten seconds.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Donnie gets blindsided by Raph during training because he was watching April sparring with Leo. Of course, a moment later he gets distracted by a falling leaf...
  • Fog of Doom / Knockout Gas: Creepweed emits a thick cloud of sleeping gas that instantly incapacitates everyone in it.
  • Foreshadowing: When Donnie first drinks Mikey's antidote, the former is reduced to a brain-dead idiot babbling incoherently. Before the rest of his brothers leave to fight Creepweed, Donnie is seen drinking from a soda hat. All the while, he has a significantly more intelligent look in his eyes than he did moments ago. This is meant to signal to the audience that Mikey's antidote is already reversing Donnie's condition.
  • From Bad to Worse: The Creep fuses with Son of Snakeweed and becomes a monstrous tentacled creature that takes over much of the city.
  • Fusion Dance: The Creep and the Son of Snakeweed merge to become "Creepweed".
  • Hidden Depths: Mikey claims that he has a photographic memory. By the end of the episode, Donnie muses that it might actually be true.
  • Hope Spot: Donnie drinks Mikey's formula, only to immediately get even dumber. Later on it turns out it did cure Donnie.
  • Identical Stranger: The Creep creates a clone of Snakeweed.
  • Instant Sedation: It takes only seconds for the Creepweed's gas to knock someone out.
  • Kill It with Fire: Attempted, but it only makes Creepweed mad.
  • Mundane Utility: Donnie uses the Shellraiser's on-board computer to play Pong.
  • Never My Fault: Averted with Mikey for once. He genuinely feels guilty about turning Donnie into an idiot and tries to fix his mistake.
  • No-Sell: The Creep barely flinches at Raph's repeated attacks, and is none the worse for wear after being impaled on a pipe.
  • People Jars: Creepweed places all the people in pods.
  • Shout-Out: Mikey mentions two sequels for "Swamp Creatures", "Electric Swampaloo" and "The Swamp Creatures Take Manhattan".
  • Stealth Insult: After Donnie thanks Mikey for saving him, he subtly insults Mikey by telling him how he understands what it's like to be an idiot on a daily basis.
Donnie: You know I gotta admit, sometimes I can be hard on you and act like you're not as smart as me.
    Mikey: No worries, brah.
Donnie: But now, I finally understand how you feel all the time.
Mikey: Thanks, Donnie. *Beat* (Realizes he's being insulted) Wait a sec... Donnie!!
  • Talkative Loon: Donnie becomes one as his intelligence fades.
    Donnie: I like french fries!
  • Too Dumb to Live/Took a Level in Dumbass: After the brain worm formula splashes onto Donnie's arm, he gets progressively stupider to the point where Mikey's idiocy in past (and future) episodes are nothing compared to what Donnie does here.
  • The Unreveal: Though Leo brings up the question of why the formula that made Donnie stupid had the opposite effect on the Creep, no explanation is ever given.
  • The Voiceless: Creep as usual and his Snakeweed clone.
