Donnie finally finishes Karai's retromutagen, but Zeck and Steranko, now Bebop and Rocksteady make things difficult.

  • Admiring the Abomination: Casey admits Steranko's new form is cool.
  • All for Nothing: The turtles finally find Karai, but the retromutagen has no effect on her, due to her unique mutation.
  • Amusement Park: The final showdown between the Turtles and Bebop & Rocksteady happens at Coney Island, which has certainly seen better days.
  • Appropriated Appellation: Averted with Zeck, who absolutely hates the Bebop moniker. Played straight with Steranko, who loves the Rocksteady nickname.
  • Brains and Brawn: Zeck is clearly the more level-headed of him and Steranko (although Steranko does at one point tell Zeck to "think with the brain for once."
  • The Cameo: The rest of the Foot's main cast make brief appearances during the episode.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Shredder wipes the floor with Steranko and Zeck when they try to challenge him after getting mutated. Bebop and Rocksteady give a good one to The Turtles until, The Turtles turn the tables at the end of the episode
  • Deadpan Snarker: Zeck has picked up this trait.
(after being beaten up by Shredder) Zeck: Well, being a pig does have limited employment options. The bacon's in!
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Well, friendship is pushing it, but after getting the snot beat out of them, Steranko and Zeck pretty quickly join the Foot, since they've little choice.
  • Exact Words/Loophole Abuse: Zeck promises not to hurt April due to her being a girl, but he didn't say anything about tripping girls.
    • Later, Leo promises to give Steranko retromutagen in exchange for not dropping Mikey off a roller coaster, Leo keeps his promise but Raph immediately takes it back, since he didn't promise anything.
  • Expy: The cartoon Mikey is watching at the beginning of the episode, Cognard the Barbarian, is an expy of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The name of the show however, is a play on Conan the Barbarian.
  • Forced into Evil: Steranko and Zeck were already villains, but they find themselves forced into the Foot Clan's service.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Mikey's at it again, this time for Steranko and Zeck, though it's also to buy Leo some time. He tries "Pork Rinds and Chili Cheese Fries" (meh), "Sprinkles and Hot Sauce" (nyet!) and the "Royal Weenies", which nearly gets him killed. He finally gives them the names "Bebop and Rocksteady" from the side of a van. Steranko likes his new name and takes it on, but Zeck has none of it and refuses to be called that.
Zeck: Is that what you do?! Randomly name enemies based on stuff you see around you?!
Steranko: Eh, is not so bad! Kind of like the "Rocksteady".
  • Hall of Mirrors: Leo and Mikey chase Karai through one. Que every gag ever used in one of these in rapid succession.
  • Idiot Ball: When Zeck gets ahold of the retro-mutagen, his first thought is to try using it on the turtles instead of curing himself.
  • Immediate Sequel: Takes place just moments from where the last episode left off, following Steranko and Zeck's mutation.
  • Jumpscare: Donnie mentions he hates these while fighting Zeck in the haunted house.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: Mikey tries to name Steranko and Zeck after things on signs around him, instead of making up a pun based on the animal or the persons original name like he usually does. On a meta level, this is because the Warthog and Rhino duo already have non animal related names in other continuities.
  • Manly Tears: Mikey in response to Karai's farewell.
  • Mythology Gag: When Zeck threatens Michelangelo with retromutagen.
Zeck: Ready for the next mutation, turtle?
    • Considering the threstening tone and context in which Bebop utters the line, it might also be a bit lf a Take That!.
  • The Nose Knows: Zeck now has an enhanced sense of smell, which he uses to track down the turtles.
  • No-Sell: A lot of the Turtles' attacks on Steranko fail due to his tough hide and immense strength. In a more depressing way, retromutagen doesn't work on Karai due to the special way she mutated.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Zeck and Steranko decide to give up their mission to retrieve Karai like Shredder ordered to find the Turtles for interfering in their past capture of Karai that resulted in their mutation.
  • Shout-Out: At Coney Island, Zeck calls out "Turtles, come out and play-ay!" in the same manner as the main villain in The Warriors.
  • Sliding Scale of Villain Effectiveness: After being mutated Anton Zeck and Ivan Steranko try to attack The Shredder, he beats them up with out breaking a sweat. On their hunt for Karai, they decide to give up the chase and go after The Turtles instead, they easily incapacitate two thirds of the team, before being beaten at the end, and that was only because Mikey was able to distract them by promising to give them cool mutant names, after their defeat by the turtles, they prove themselves useful as Shredder's minions by capturing Karai, something Shredder's loyal henchmen have consistently failed to do after she was mutated.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: What was originally a Bittersweet Ending for the episode is now this, as Steranko and Zeck manage to capture Karai. It's safe to say, however, that she's not in any immediate danger, given that her "adopted" father genuinely loves and wants to help her.
  • Take That Us: Zeck is not happy with Mikey naming him Bebop.
Zeck/Bebop: I am not going to be called "Bebop", you got me?! That is the dumbest name ever!
  • Too Dumb to Live: The first thing Zeck and Steranko do is fight Shredder as retaliation for mutating them. Also towards the end of the episode, Mikey is able to distract Bebop and Rocksteady long enough for Leo to rescue the others, and the way he distracted them wasn't all that bright, but they fell for it anyway
  • Took a Level in Badass: Steranko was no slouch in his previous outing, but now that he's a mutated rhino, he's much stronger and tougher.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Zeck's become a tad less eccentric and upbeat following his mutation.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Zeck to April. Although tripping is fair game.
