In the midst of a heat wave, vandals are destroying everyone's air-conditioners to collect their freon, and Vernon and Burne think the turtles are the culprits. In their investigation, they find themselves in hot water.

- Elvis Impersonator: Burne and Vernon are abducted by aliens whom resemble Elvis Presley.
- He Knows Too Much: Once the spies finally realize that Burne and Vernon really didn't know anything about their operations before, they reflect that after having been questioned for three hours, they do know. It is only the arrival of Don Turtelli that saves them.
- Hollywood Mid-Life Crisis: When Burne gets nostalgic for his reporting days, Vernon accidentally goads him into investigating the turtles when he insinuates that he's too fat and old to do such a thing.
- Idiot Ball: April grabs it when she ignores Leonardo's warning to not approach the S&K Refridgereration worker, who is actually Bebop in disguise, for an interview. It results in her getting captured.
- Inelegant Blubbering: Burne apparently did this after being captured by Don Tortelli.Burne: A good newsman knows when to hold, and when to fold.
- Insult Backfire:April: Shredder, you're fiendishly inhuman!Shredder: Thank you.
- Outside-Context Problem: The Gangsters that Vernon and Burne meet up with make sense in context. Not so much the Elvis aliens who randomly abduct them right as they find the turtles.
- Tickle Torture: Burne and Vernon receive this, firstly from being interrogated by foreign agents, then from Don Turtelli and finally from the Elvis aliens.
- Trust Password: Played for Laughs when Burne and Vernon go looking for information on the Turtles, accidentally walk into a spy dead drop and ends up kidnapped and subjected to their first Tickle Torture session of the night when Burne doesn't know the rest of the code phrase.Burne: I'm looking for the giant turtles.Spy: Is the tablecloth red?
- Villainous Rescue: Burne and Vernon are saved from being killed by the spies when Don Turtelli and his goons arrive suddenly and scare them off. Turtelli is there because he believes that Burne is investigating him (due to the similar names), and starts tickling Burne and Vernon himself to find out what they know.
