Not the most subtle way to win a family dispute, but still rather effective.

Conflict arises among a wealthy man's greedy survivors. Original air date, April 19th 1996. Staring John Kassir; Natasha Richardson; Bob Hoskins; Greg Wise; Leslie Phillips; James Saxon.

Tropes:

  • Age-Gap Romance: The elderly Mycroft and his younger attractive lawyer Miss Fiona Havisham. Thankfully it doesn't go very far.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Lawyer Fiona Havisham who used to go by Frank Amberson before her transition, manages to eliminate her brothers, father and takes the fortune for herself.
  • Boom, Headshot!: How Mycroft Amberson is staged to have died from a suicide via gunshot to the head.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Justin Amberson propositions Miss Fiona Havisham, unaware that she's actually his transgender sister.
  • Cain and Abel: The Amberson siblings go to great lengths trying to kill the other and secure the Amberson family fortune to himself.
  • Creator Cameo: Bob Hoskins directed this episode and plays Redmond.
  • Foreshadowing: Why did Mycroft kick the youngest Frank out of his house as a child? Mycroft mentions it was because he was "sensitive" and "different". We learn just what he meant when it's revealed Frank transitioned into Fiona.
  • Get Out!: Mycroft's parting words to his youngest son Frank as he kicks him out of the mansion.
  • Hello, Attorney!: Miss Fiona Havisham is a young attractive woman with long blonde hair. Being played by the late Natasha Richardson helps.
  • How We Got Here: The episode opens with Mycroft getting shot and then proceeds to explain what happened to get to this point.
  • I Have No Son!: Mycroft ordered his youngest child Frank to pack up and leave his estate, pretty clearly due to 'Frank' being a Transgender woman.
  • Medium Awareness: This is the first episode of the series to be filmed in England, a trend that would continue for the next 11 episodes. This is illustrated through the episode's prologue, with the Crypt Keeper travelling to London, and deciding to stay a little longer in the epilogue.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Miss Fiona Havisham is complimented by other men for "having a nice body".
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mycroft's opening lines at the start of the episode before his death. Also Mycroft's reaction after seeing Fiona has a penis and after The Reveal, realizes he'd nearly slept with his own son. His guilt doesn't last long as he's killed.
  • Surprise Incest: Lord Mycroft Amberson develops a flirtation with his lawyer Fiona Havisham and almost sleeps with her, unaware until the Unsettling Gender-Reveal that is that she's 'Frank,' his transgender daughter. Justin also flirts with Fiona and shamelessly invites her to have sex with him, unaware of their relation.
  • Tomato Surprise: The Mycrofts await the arrival of youngest Frank alongside their lawyer Miss Fiona Havisham. Turns out Frank was there all this time, as Miss Fiona Havisham.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Just as they're about to sleep together, Fiona reveals to Mycroft that she's transgender, flashing him her penis off-screen.
Mycroft: (shocked) Oh God...you're a fella?
  • Walking Spoiler: Miss Fiona Havisham is important to the plot.
  • Wham Line: Fiona to Mycroft.
    Fiona: Hello, Daddy.
    Mycroft: (Beat, realizes) Frank?!
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: The middle son is named Evelyn.
