Sixth Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) episode in release order, after "Super Sonic" and followed by "Hooked On Sonics".
Robotnik sets up a ruse for Sonic in the form of a race at Robotropolis. Unable to convince Sonic otherwise, Sally leads the other Freedom Fighters on a mission to take out Robotnik's power generators.
This episode provides examples of:
- Batman Gambit: Snively talks Eggman into coming up with a race because they both know Sonic won't resist turning down a challenge that can boost his ego.
- While Sally warns Sonic that the race is an obvious trap, Sonic tells her it can distract Robotnik away from her attempt to destroy the backup generator.
- Big Damn Heroes: Sonic saves Antoine from getting crushed by gears in the backup generator building at the last second.
- Bolivian Army Ending: With the backup generator destroyed and the plan to capture Sonic a complete failure, Snively is left in the dark with a livid Robotnik.
- Brick Joke: Bunnie tells the bedtime story Little Red Riding Hood to Tails. While preparing for the race, Robotnik calls Sonic "Little Red-Rodent Hood".
- Comically Missing the Point: Antoine after ignoring Bunnie's warning to keep quiet.
- Deer in the Headlights: Antoine is too paralyzed with fright to get off the conveyor belt, relying on Sally, Bunnie and later Sonic to stop it.
- Department of Redundancy Department: Sonic insults some SWAT bots: "Anyone ever tell you you're ugly and you dress funny? Allow me to be the first: You're ugly and you dress funny!"
- Honor Before Reason: Defied. When Sonic sees Sally's distress flare, he abandons the race despite the finish line being right in front of him.
- Tempting Fate: Sally tells Sonic and Bunnie that they have to destroy Robitnik's backup generator. Sonic assures her that there isn't a backup... only to watch Robotropolis regain its power.
- Unbuilt Trope: This is the first instance of Robotnik trying to exploit Sonic's overconfidence. In this case however, Sonic walks into the scheme intentionally for the means of a mission, and the booby traps prove ineffective, with the stakes caused by Antoine botching things in an unrelated area. It would seem Robotnik really upped his game in Season Two, where Sonic continuously needs to be saved from his own ego.
