Pete Ross returns to Smallville and is shocked by how everything has changed since he left four years ago. He also has to deal with developing the power to stretch his limbs thanks to chewing Kryptonite-irradiated gum.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Bad Boss: Lex shows this trait when Chloe confronts about spying on her computer usage and he gives her a spiel about how she doesn't have rights.
Chloe: You hacked into my computer and copied my files, Lex! I have rights!
Lex: No. You don't have rights; you have responsibilities. Owning the Daily Planet means everything within these walls, and if you have a problem with the way I run this paper, Miss Sullivan, you're free to find out if the Inquisitor offers a more considerate environment! You're excused.
  • Blackmail: Lex threatens to expose Chloe as a Metor Freak if Pete doesn't steal Kara's bracelet for him.
  • The Bus Came Back: Pete Ross returns in this episode after leaving at the end of Season 3. He leaves again at the end.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Pete is jealous he is not longer Clark's only Secret-Keeper.
  • Mythology Gag: Amnesiac Kara is shown wearing white more often, referring to the trademark white costume of the alternate Supergirl, Power Girl.
  • No OSHA Compliance: The Stride packing plant was closed for safety reasons, but they allow a party to be held inside without giving the place a proper once-over, leaving an open vein of Kryptonite undiscovered.
  • Product Placement: For Stride chewing gum, down to important scenes taking place in a closed Stride packing plant that somehow can still keep their signboard lit.
  • Rubber Man: Pete gains the ability to stretch his limbs due to chewing Kryptonite-irradiated Stride gum.
  • Villain of the Week: Pete, but only after he was blackmailed by Lex.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Clark is under the impression that the krypto-gum is causing this in Pete. The fact that Pete tries to kill Lex before losing the gum seems to affirm this.
