On a world where clones are created and harvested for spare body parts, Quinn is mistaken for a clone and captured, while the others inadvertently rescue his clone, whom Colin tries to teach the importance of family and sacrifice.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Clones Are People, Too: The core of the story. While Michael Mallory doesn't see the harm in what they're doing, Quinn's double does and refuses a transplant. In the end, Michael refers to the Mallory clone as his other son.
  • Expendable Clone: On this world, clones are systematically harvested whenever the original human needs a transplant.
  • Eye Scream: A lab accident costs Quinn's double the use of his eyes. Quinn and the Mallory clone are threatened with losing their eyes as a result. RJ also wears a covering over part of his face—suggesting one of his eyes (and possibly more) was harvested.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: RJ, a renegade clone. He actively tries to help his fellows, but his experiences have left him hardened and perfectly willing to kill.
  • Honor Before Reason: Quinn's double would rather remain blind than harvest a clone. Mallory takes it to the other extreme.
Mallory: Colin says you give up things for your family. If my brother needs my eyes, he can have them.
  • Irony: The Mallory clone does give Quinn's double his eyes, but by acting like a seeing eye dog.
    "I'm his eyes."
  • Last-Name Basis: The Quinn clone is known only as "Mallory."
  • Riddle for the Ages: What advice did Quinn give his double before the slide?
  • Take a Third Option: Quinn's double won't accept a transplant while Mallory is willing to give him his eyes. In the end, Mallory becomes something of a seeing eye-dog to him.
  • Take That!: Rembrandt buys a biography of Richard Nixon "to see if there are 18 missing pages."
  • Taking the Bullet: Mallory for Michael. He survives, though.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Downplayed. Colin believes people shouldn't hurt another to help themselves, but it's clear he recognizes not everyone feels that way.
