When Jonesy, Wyatt and Jude realize the Jen, Nikki and Caitlin may still have their tickets to a movie they want to see, they go to Hiro at Super Terrific Happy Sushi to see if he can help them with their "female troubles." Meanwhile, the girls' menstrual cycles have synced up, causing each of them to act way differently than they usually do.
Tropes:
- All Periods Are PMS: This is the driving trope of the girls' plot when their period cycles sync up:
- Jen gets really painful stomach cramps during her period—in fact, she compares it to (what she imagines) being hit in the stomach with a bowling ball feels like.
- Nikki and Caitlin basically have a Personality Swap on their periods, acting like exaggerated versions of each other. To go into greater detail:
- Nikki becomes overly emotional and very needy while also developing a craving for chocolate (which she hates) that's so strong that she can't bring herself to stop eating it.
- Caitlin gets really bitchy and cranky when she's on period—but it's unknown if she develops an aversion to chocolate because, unlike Nikki, Caitlin loves itnote .
- And This Is for...: Caitlin does this when angrily making lemonade and throwing the lemons around wildly.
- Bad Mood as an Excuse: Caitlin's in a very bad mood for most of the episode, which doesn't clear up until the very end.
- Big "NO!": The boys shout this when they find out that the tickets to the movie they want to see is completely sold out.
- No Periods, Period: Completely averted for the sake of this episode.
- Out-of-Character Alert: The first thing that tips off that something's not right with Nikki is when she cheerfully calls out "Hey guys!" to the boys.
- "Shaggy Dog" Story: The episode's main premise is that the main six are going to see a martial arts/action-film called "Dragon Thunder," which they're really excited to see (the boys especially—Jude claims to have been waiting at least a year for the movie to come out). The girls were apparently tasked with getting the six tickets, but when they start acting weird (with the boys not realizing until much later that they're on their periods), they worry that the girls are holding their share of the movie tickets hostage. They go to great lengths to get said tickets, but near the end of the episode, when the girls finally realized what the guys wanted, Caitlin says, "Why didn't you guys just ask? I gave your [share of the] tickets to Jude this morning." After hearing this, Jude reaches into his pants-pocket and pulls out the guys' share of the tickets, sheepishly realizing that he forgot he had them on him the entire duration of the episode, making all the boys' actions totally pointless. Jonesy and Wyatt are (understandably) furious with Jude and almost immediately start chasing after him when he runs away from them, with the girls eventually joining in.
- Sick Episode: Because of her period, Jen's suffering from really painful cramps for almost the entire episode, but she ends up overcoming them (to an extent) by using a hot water bottle, some chamomile tea and some pain-relieving pills (unfortunately, the last two things make her very tired and she ends up falling asleep at one point near the end of the episode).
- Stunned Silence: Coach Halder of all people when questioning why Jen is in the box.Coach Halder: What are you doing with that hot water bottle?Jen: It's for cramps.Coach Halder: (Beat) ...Jen: ... uh... female cramps?Coach Halder: (Beat) ... uh... well! Uh, right... yes... uh, very nice, yes, good good. Uh... I'll just... go over there...Jen: Yes Coach!
