Marian is at the manor when Gisborne realizes what is going on and corners her behind the door of the room she is in. Just as he is breaking down the door with an axe, Robin and the band arrive and hold Gisborne and his men to arrow-point whilst Marian makes good her escape but Gisborne manages to stab Marian in the belly as she leaves, something Robin does not realize until he is prepared to depart.

Meanwhile, Will and Alan-a-Dale, having got away with a large amount of gold, decide to treat it as 'severance pay' and leave Robin. Robin takes Marian to the cave where the men have been hiding out, and Marian and Robin at last share their true feelings. Djaq does her best to operate but in the morning, she finds that Marian's body is 'shutting down'. Finally Djaq announces that Marian needs a proper physician. Robin runs to get a doctor, who leaves a trail of bandages for the guards to follow. The doctor declares that Marian is dead. Robin grieves over Marian's body.

Tropes

  • Anachronism Stew: The rubber lugs on Will's boots are glaringly obvious in several scenes, and Allan describes the silver they've just stolen as "severance pay."
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Robin confesses his love for Marian, after he believes she's died.
  • Belated Injury Realization: Presumably due to the adrenaline rush after escaping Locksley Manor, Marian doesn't realize just how badly she's been hurt until she's in Sherwood Forest and had time to catch her breath.
  • Damsel in Distress: Marian goes to steal a cache of silver from Gisborne, only to get trapped in his bedroom and bailed out by Robin's timely arrival. Then she's mortally wounded by Gisborne as she passes him on the stair, requiring Robin to carry her at least part of the way back to the cave.
  • Dramatic Irony: Guy spends the episode looking forward to marrying Marian, having no idea whatsoever that he's stabbed her with a curved dagger, nearly sending her to her death.
  • Evil All Along: Pitts initially seems like a well-meaning person despite his complicity in Guy's assassination attempt on the King, only for him to become a Card-Carrying Villain by the end of the episode, with no discernable motivation beyond For the Evulz.
  • Evil Laugh: After poisoning Marian and hearing the Sheriff's imminent arrival, Pitts confesses his role in achieving both with a low, evil chuckle.
  • Idiot Ball: Pitts just has to indulge in some Evil Gloating before trying to leave. Thanks to Little John, he doesn't get very far. If he'd kept his mouth shut, he could have just stayed in the cave until everything blew over and gone home safely.
  • Manly Tears: Robin weeps over Marian's body. It quickly turns to a Death Glare when he hears the Sheriff approaching.
  • Medical Horror: Plenty of this when Djaq tells Marian she has to sew her up with a blunt needle.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Robin mutters this when he realizes Pitts has led the Sheriff and his men straight to the outlaws' secret hideout.
  • One Last Job: To make herself "more comfortable in my marriage", Marian decides to rob Gisborne of the silver he's recently shown her and has stashed at Locksley Manor. Naturally, it all goes horribly wrong.
  • Secret Stab Wound: Marian is stabbed as the Nightwatchman by Guy, and doesn't seem to realize she's been injured until she and Robin have made their escape.
  • Trail of Bread Crumbs: As Robin is taking him to the cave, Pitts throws bandages from his bag into the forest as a trail for the Nottingham guards to follow.
