The guys need to obtain a LaserDisc player in order to watch the director's cut of a cult classic.
Tropes:
- Ax-Crazy: The leader of the Ancient Order of the VHS is a little too eager to shoot the Disc Masters, firing wildly and Laughing Mad in the initial shootout.
- Breaking Old Trends: Normally Mordecai and Rigby would get excited for an adventure such as this, however because they just wanted to get a simple laserdisc player to watch a movie, they're not into it.
- Call-Back: Timmy's untimely arrival is similar to what happened to Jimmy in Rage Against the TV.
- Canis Latinicus: When the guys chanted "Sic Semper Fidelity" to transform Archie into the Laserdisc Guardian, it translates into "Always Loyal" in Latin. This is commonly used by the US Marine Corp.
- Chain Lightning: After one of the leaders of the Ancient Order of the VHS and some other members are killed by the Laserdisc Guardian's supersonic attack, the remaining members shoot it, prompting their target to unleash lightning that leaps from member to member, blinding them. It ends in Timmy, the employee who made fun of Muscle Man, who has just entered the library, also being blinded.
- The Chosen One: Mordecai, Rigby, Muscle Man and Hi Five Ghost are the prophesied Disc Masters who would "reunite that last laserdisc with the last laserdisc player and end the Format Wars once and for all!"
- Secret War: The Format Wars in which the Ancient Order of VHS was hellbent to eliminate laserdiscs and their superior imaging. But how long did this last?Mordecai: Woah...When did all of this happen?
Librarian: Two years ago. - "Shaggy Dog" Story: After managing to get the last Laserdisc player, the episode ends with the guys finally watching the director's cut of 21-12 Time Attack....which none of them like because of how long and boring it is.
- Shout-Out: The death of the Ancient Order of VHS is similar to what happened to the Nazis at the very end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
