Tropes

  • Armor-Piercing Response: "Too bad your real team captain, Tommy, isn't around anymore."
  • Call-Back: Alpha uses a remote to summon Tommy's Super Zeo Zord, likening it to the one the team used for the Falconzord last season.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: As Gasket bemoans this failure, Sprocket gives him a pat on the back.
    Gasket: Leave me alone!
  • The End... Or Is It?: The scan shorts out before Tommy can be found, but Zordon warns his mind is being altered. We then cut to Tommy strapped to a machine and struggling against brainwashing.
  • Ignored Expert: Sprocket tried to warn Gasket that the Rangers would be more trouble than he expected.
  • Properly Paranoid: After Tommy vanishes, Kat immediately has a good idea what happened.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!:
Cruel Chrome: My name's Cruel Chrome, Rangers, and you might as well wave goodbye to your world right now.
Jason: You better just cool your jets, pal, 'cause you're the only one around here who's sunk.
Cruel Chrome: That's tough talk from a second-rate substitute. Too bad your real team captain, Tommy, isn't around anymore.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Both Sprocket and Gasket so badly want to become king one day. They spend the episode sniping at each other. Sprocket is conciliatory after Cruel Chrome is destroyed, though, even patting Gasket on the back.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Faced with the Super Zeo Ultrazord, the Cruel Chrome monster simply remarks, "This can't be good."
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: A Running Gag this season was monster antics affecting Stone's property and Bulk and Skull getting the blame for whatever happened. This time, however, Alpha builds a replacement and Stone (unaware of what happened) congratulates Bulk and Skull on a job well-done. A confused Bulk and Skull just faint.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Gasket does not take his failure well. Sprocket tells him to stop crying before he rusts.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Though having big plans to get past the Machine Empire's security systems without detection for an attack, Zedd and Rita spend the episode playing cards, due to the RV being broken down. Goldar and Rito's attempt to fix it don't do them any favors.
  • Written-In Absence: According to Zordon, Billy is with the Treys on Triforia, as part of a new reunification attempt.
