- Accidentally Broke the MacGuffin: The scroll that reveals the location of the Fire Heart gets torn in half by Vida and Necrolai; each side gets one half.

- Big Creepy-Crawlies: Xander, Chip and Madison get trapped inside the web of a Giant Spider.
- Beware the Silly Ones: Phineas's first instance of this; he's able to save the Rangers from the giant spider by outwitting it (and some damn impressive acrobatics).
- Bottomless Pits: Subverted. Phineas sings a little song about the spider falling into the bottomless pit, but a loud thud makes him remark that the pit wasn't really bottomless after all.
- Let's Split Up, Gang!: Nick and Vida decide they'd rather stick with Phineas, while Xander bribes Madison and Chip to go with him instead by promising to cover their shifts for three weekends.
- MacGuffin: This episode's self-contained one is the scroll itself, but a greater-scope MacGuffin is introduced with the Fire Heart the scroll leads to.
- MacGuffin Melee: Nick and Vida find the scroll at the same time as Necrolai, and fight over it.
- Quicksand Sucks: Of the swamp variety; all five rangers end up standing (and sinking) in it. They pull themselves out, but lose the map in the process.
