Recap / Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue S1E12 Truth Discovered

Go To

Captain Mitchell realizes that the Titanium Ranger is his son and Dana's brother Ryan. Can the two bring Ryan back to the good side?

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Big "NO!":
    • From Captain Mitchell, twice. The first time happens when a young Ryan is about to fall to his death and Mr. Mitchell cries out for his son to be saved. The second time is when Diabolico as a spirit takes away Ryan and decrees to Mr. Mitchell that he will not see Ryan until his 20th birthday.
    • Ryan, when his dad was about to fall.
  • Deal with the Devil: Captain Mitchell makes one with Diabolico to save Ryan as a kid.
  • Empathy Doll Shot: After the opening theme, we get a shot of Ryan's toy fire truck on the road.
  • Hats Off to the Dead: Joel takes off his hat after hearing Captain Mitchell's story about what happened to Ryan, who didn't actually die.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Once again hanging on a cliff and the branch about to break, Captain Mitchell allows himself to fall. But Ryan morphs into the Titanium Ranger to save him.
  • I Warned You: Diabolico tells Ryan he'll pay if he walks away from him.
    Diabolico: Mark my words, Ryan.
  • No, You:
Dana: What happened was a long time ago. It's over.
Ryan: (aiming his Titanium Laser at Dana) It's over for you!
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Ms. Fairweather and a staff member noticed how quiet Captain Mitchell was. Also, they noticed he left the base without telling anyone.
    Carter: That's not like him.
  • Plot Hole: Diabolico being able to save Ryan's life at a time when he would still be imprisoned in the tomb is never explained. Although he only appeared as a spirit.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Everyone thought Ryan died in the car crash. Except for Captain Mitchell, who remembers watching in horror as Diabolico's spirit comes in to save Ryan from falling to his death from the cliff — only to raise him so that his mind is poisoned, is added to the list of henchmen, and so that he turns against his father and sister.
  • Revenge: Tainted by Diabolico's lies, Ryan wants to destroy his dad for letting him fall to his death. And Dana for being "the favorite".
  • Sadistic Choice: Mitchell must either allow his son to be taken away or let him fall to his death.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: Ryan tells Dana to be quiet when she tells him he wanted to be a firefighter like their dad.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: While the rest of the Rangers debate over how to deal with the Titanium Ranger attacking (especially after being told the whole story), Dana went to face Ryan on her own.
  • Where It All Began: Ryan teleported to the cliff where the family crashed. Captain Mitchell meet him there. After a brief scuffles, Ryan remembers the truth.
