Wrench's latest idea to defeat the rangers is a fairly explosive one - plant a bomb near the rangers to take them all out at once. Joining him is Smokescreen, an oni-themed alien who can create a red fog, by farting. While the two debate who is in charge of the mission, they fail to actually arm the bomb, resulting in a mad chase across town to arm the bomb without the rangers noticing.

Meanwhile, Tyler and Ivan are competing for attention. While Tyler was content to take the leadership role, the new addition to the team seems to be taking all the current attention. Ivan arrives outside the museum on a horse, in full armor no less; and gets Instagrammed by the patrons, and when Shelby takes him to the mall for a wardrobe upgrade, she picks out the exact same longcoat that Tyler had previously bought to impress her.

Naturally, the two compete against each other, both trying to sabotage each other's actions, culminating in them wrestling each other in the fog when they collide with Smokescreen. Realizing their folly, the two work together to defeat Smokescreen, but the bomb has been armed, and is close to detonating.

Sledge grows Smokescreen to distract the rangers, but the rangers split up to deal with the two threats. Sledge, in a moment of savviness, grows the bomb itself so the rangers cannot move it, and Smokescreen's naga form is too much for the Tri-Stego Megazord to handle, even with Dino Drive active. Tyler and Ivan work together once again to form the Tri-Stego-Ptera formation and defeat Smokescreen, before using the Megazord to return the bomb back to its sender.

Later, Ivan and Tyler both give each other presents, including a cleaned and pressed longcoat for Ivan, and the two pose for selfies, to Shelby's consternation.

Tropes:

  • Animorphism: Smokescreen grows a fish tail in place of his legs for the giant fight.
  • Brick Joke: The longcoat.
  • Bromance: Tyler and Ivan develop one of these to the point the other Rangers liked it better when they were fighting.
  • Love Triangle: Tyler and Ivan begin competing for Shelby's affections. She'd shown some friendship and attraction to both of them before, so naturally the two were rivals for the episode, before working together against Sledge had them put aside their harsh feelings for each other. Though Shelby still hasn't decided who she likes more...
  • Puddle-Covering Chivalry: A jealous Tyler sets Ivan up for this; by the time the patrons are done the coat is thoroughly filthy.
