It's Open House for members of families at the Pokémon School, and Ash's mom has returned to meet the other twerps' families, as well as Rockruff, Rowlet, and Litten. She even gets to show Team Skull that she has some Trainer skills of her own.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Well, Ash certainly wasn't cool initially with Delia insisting on battling Team Skull with him.RotomDex: Wow, Ash! I had no idea your mother could battle!
Ash: (facepalm) - Can't Get Away with Nuthin': RotomDex convinces Ash to use it to cheat on his presentation. The students get suspicious fairly quickly, and it's confirmed when RotomDex suffers a glitch, making him go really fast, and briefly uses Samson Oak's voice, forcing Ash to do one of his Verbal Tic facial expressions.
- Even the Dog Is Ashamed: With Empathy Pet in play, Steenee and Snowy have similar expressions to their respective trainers when the students realize that Ash is cheating on his presentation.
- Evolving Credits: In the Japanese version, the ending theme is updated to include Lillie and Team Rocket doing Z-Move poses instead of just Ash. Lillie does the Ice pose with Snowy; James does the Poison pose with Mareanie; Ash does the Psychic pose with Mimey; and Jessie does the Normal pose with Meowth, Wobbuffet, and Bewear.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Mallow was the first to smell a rat with Ash's "report", because the report was going far beyond what the other students knew he was capable of.
- Sneeze Cut: In the End-of-Episode Silliness in the Japanese version, Delia talks about Litten with the berry stand lady at Hau'oli Marketplace, and Litten sneezes back at Professor Kukui's house.
- Unmanly Secret: Litten was not comfortable being put at ease by Delia scratching under his chin, but he couldn't resist her charms.
