Recap / Phineas And Ferb I Was A Middle Aged Robot

Go To

When Lawrence discovers Perry's secret identity and accidentally has his memory wiped right before the Father-Daughter Picnic Games with Candace, Perry operates a Lawrence robot to fill in. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz creates the opposite of glue, called "eulg", which takes things apart.

Tropes:

  • Baby Morph Episode: When Lawrence gets out of the memory eraser, since his mind was 95% erased, he starts acting like a toddler.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Crazy-Prepared: Major Monogram is a little concerned that Carl had robots of the Flynn-Fletcher family on standby for an emergency.
Major Monogram: Wow. That's a little creepy, Carl.
Carl: Yes. (Beat) Yes, it is.
  • Emergency Impersonation: Perry has to temporarily impersonate Lawrence using a robotic exoskeleton.
  • In Medias Res: By the time we get to Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc., Doof is already in the midst of his evil monologue saying, "...and by 'inopportune', of course, I mean, 'completely opportune'!"
  • Ladies and Germs: Phineas says, "Ladies and girls," before revealing his pep-squad mobile blimp, since only the Fireside Girls have come to visit.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The agency's memory eraser accidentally erases Lawrence's entire life, but fortunately they're able to restore his memory. It takes some time before the memories are fully restored, however; hence why Perry was asked to act as Lawrence in the meantime. It also erases him seeing Perry as a Secret Agent.
  • Medal of Dishonor: The trophies Lawrence has in his trophy rack include engravings such as "Last Place", "Nice Try", and "Better Luck Next Time". One trophy in particular is doing the "loser" hand gesture.
  • Mobile-Suit Human: Carl has prepared robotic duplicates of the entire Flynn-Fletcher family in case of emergencies, and Perry is tasked to pilot the Lawrence robot in time for the games, while the real Lawrence has his memories restored.
  • Never My Fault: After Doofenshmirtz lands on Phineas' blimp, his plane parts fall on top of him, including a single nail, which deflates the blimp and sends it flying. He still curses Perry the Platypus as he flies away, even though the latter isn't actually involved in Doofenshmirtz's scheme (and he even lampshades it).
    Doofenshmirtz: CURSEYOUPERRYTHEPLATYPUSEVENTHOUGHYOUWERENTINVOLVEDINTHISSCHEMEWHATSOEVEEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!
  • One-Word Vocabulary: Downplayed. The Lawrence-Robot is equipped with only a handful of phrases, which Perry manages to use to communicate with Candace properly. One of the phrases is "Lovely windmill, isn't it," because the robot toolkit came from the Netherlands.
    Carl: Oh, those kooky Dutch!
  • Overly Long Gag: Because the instruction manual for the robot was written in Dutch, and because OWCA could only find a Dutch to French dictionary and a French to English dictionary, every time Agent P has to learn to operate the robot, he has to read the manual, then skim the first dictionary and the second dictionary.
  • A Rare Sentence: After Candace trips over Perry, she exclaims to Phineas, "How many times have I told you to keep Perry out of my way when I'm balancing eggs on a spoon?" Phineas points out she's never actually said that before.
  • Rule of Three: The Ballpit Kid recognizes Perry three times. The third time, Monogram tells Carl to fire up the memory eraser.
  • Running Gag: Balthazar catching Agent P coming out of the robot's butt.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Doofenshmirtz's invention, the "eulg", which works the opposite way as glue; when applied to any object, it instantly falls apart.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a parody of I Was a Teenage Werewolf and other similarly named works.
  • Toilet Humor: During the pie eating contest, Perry has the Lawrence-Robot suck up all the pies and chucks them out of the robot's butt. A kid standing nearby, Balthazar (aka the Ballpit Kid) is grossed out by this.
  • Tuckerization: The team names on the scoreboard are some of the crew and their real-life daughters, including director Zac Moncrief and his daughter Lynn, and Dan Povenmire and his daughter Melissa (now going by Meli).
  • The Unreveal: We never do learn why Dr. Doofenshmirtz wanted to destroy the local adult diaper factory with his "eulg", because Perry leaves before he gets to the backstory part of his evil scheme.
Doofenshmirtz: It's a terrific backstory! Y'know, this is gonna be a backstory, too, someday!
